OK, do we have a proposal for this conference? There isn't a vote, of course,
but I figure asking for a proposal is the easiest way to summarize the dang
thing. ;)

While we're at it, I'd like to ask about the "storage" conference, tentatively
FWed by nephi...

Yes on "storage"....dont think the proposal is clear on the other one?
Is it to be a sex conf or a human relations conf? Or something inbetween?
Carson and Anne, how do you conceptualize this new conf?

response 127 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 9 01:13 UTC 1996

who cares?

That's a serious question. I'm more of a "wait and see what the users
make of it" than a tyrannical sort, and it's been my impression for the
past two years that mooncat is pretty much the same way.

yeah but carson, if you dont want it to be a drift conf, and you want
it to be serious, you've got to have something of a foundation. As
FW's, you should be able to post what you think the conf should be about
ideally and what the tone should be ideally.

I guess I could. I don't really want to bother with it, though. I really
don't feel that drift=bad, and I think I can FW without ticking off a lot
of people.

Regarding #25: Yes.

I would tenitively like to co-fw a storage cf. I've never fwed before, so
I wouldn
er, wouldn't make a good fw by myself.

Cool! Having two fair witnesses sounds perfect!

OK, the "storage" conference has been created, with nephi and dang as FWs.

Where do I find a description of what/how I can fw?

scott, why didyou call the storage conf "archive"? this is going to
be confusing
scott
response 136 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 10 00:47 UTC 1996

Oops, my mistake, kerouac. It is indeed the "storage" conference, but I
entered it as "archive" here in the coop conf. creation item. I'll fix it.

Re 134: You can find a quick cheat-sheet listing of fair witness commands in
item 26 of the info conference. There's also a much longer description of
"What Is A Fair Witness" floating around somewhere, maybe in
/usr/local/grexdoc or in nephi's directory, I think.

Found the one in info, thanks. (It occured to me that I wasn't the first,
and the answer was likely here, so where would it be? :)

Dan is so smart. I'm glad he's on Grex.

FWing is a breeze. You'll do well, dang.

Thank you. :) However, it did take me a whole 20 minutes or so to think of
it. I should have knows it before that, with so many "go to info" posts I've
seen over the years...

This is something that came out of mary remmers item on whether to
elect fw's in coop. I'd like to propose a conference on....

*********** conferencing ************

Basically it has occurred to me that there is a need for a place for fair
witnesses to barnstorm, discuss various fw problems, and discuss various
ideas and approaches to running a succesful conference. This could also
be a good place to discuss new conferencing ideas, such as hvcn's
backtalk and grex's proposed web-based setup.

In theory, this could help improve coop, since conferencing problems would
be directed to this new conf, and coop would be free to focus on what it is
intended for, broader system issues and board related issues.

I'd view this as an official grex conf, a companion to the coop conf. As
such this can also be a good conf to break in new fw's. This would be a
good place therefore to try mary's idea of electing fw's. Obviously a
couple of volunteers would be needed to start it up, but we could agree
to have an election after the first couple of months.

It could be called something like--

"InterAction-- The conference on conferencing...

or maybe "The Fair Witness Conference"?

dang
response 142 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 15 02:11 UTC 1996

I'd vote more for InterAction because the Fair Witness conference sounds too
much like "The Staff Conference" and would discourage new participants.

carson
response 144 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 02:13 UTC 1996

why not both? =)
kerouac
response 145 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 02:20 UTC 1996

This could easily serve both purposes. A conference to give fair
witnesses a place to talk shop, and a place to discuss conferencing
in general. What it is, what it could be .etc

I see this as a spinoff of coop.....COOP II- The Conferencing Conference....
Where users, staff, the board, and fw's discuss conferencing.

response 146 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 04:59 UTC 1996

Conferencing is just one thing, albeit an important thing, done on or by
Grex (CCI, that is). Coop is concerned with everything concerning running
this business, and fulfilling its purposes. Therefore, a conference *on*
conferencing would not be Coop II - it would be an acknowledgment of the
importance of conferencing in the bigger picture. There are other Grex
functions supported by separate conferences, such as newsletter, helpers,
publicity, etc.

response 147 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 12:59 UTC 1996

this is a prety good idea but not nece3ssarily as a separate
conference. Several items in either info or help might do
the trick, particularily as a start-up location.

response 148 of 470: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 17:09 UTC 1996

The problem with info is that it's so huge it's slow. I only go there when
I *really* need to know something that I'm not likely to find anywhere else.

Yeah, I was just thinking it might be time for another
Info restart.
