They've been added to the list. The plan is still to vote to choose
the top five (5), and then have the runoff with those. Remmers, where
are you??

There having been no additions for over two weeks, and this
discussion having gone on for a matter of months, I would like
to request a vote on the issue.

Oh, one question: Since this isn't an official election or policy vote,
would anybody object if I read-permit the vote directory so that people
can see how the vote is going and who's voting for what?

Makes no difference to me. I would think most people don't mind
seeing the progress of the vote, some might mind their votes
being seen.

If this were done in a large assembly, it would probably be done by
a show of hands. Closed ballots are needed primarily in elections, or
for contentious issues.

Okay, the vote program is now set up for this. To run it, type "!vote"
at a Picospan prompt or "vote" at a Unix shell prompt. Anybody can vote,
member or not. Keep in mind that this is a straw vote, not an official
policy vote.
This is simply the board election program coerced into this task by
changing some configuration files. As a result, and because there are
24 candidates for a name, you may find the interface somewhat tedious,
since you have to vote explicitly 'y' or 'n' for each and every
candidate. I didn't want to take the time to write a new program.
From reading the previous discussion, it appeared that I should set it
up to allow people to vote for up to 5 candidates. Please let me know
if that's wrong -- it's easy to change.
I've opened up the voting directories and configuration files so that
anybody can look at them. The config files are in the directory
/var/spool/votedir/board and the votes themselves in the directory
/var/spool/votedir/board/votes. Each person's vote is recorded in a
file whose name is the same as their login id.
Also -- when is the voting period supposed to end?

It was proposed to reduce the candidate names to 5, and then to choose from
among them. Voting for up to 5 will accomplish ther first step - if enough
users vote. An item should be started in agora to explainand encourage
voting. If we get out the publicity - the usual voting period should be
sufficient.

newsletter effort at this point.
