What exactly does nannygate mean?
omni
response 130 of 163: Mark Unseen   May 6 08:23 UTC 1995

Nannygate is what happened to Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood when they were
nominated for Attorney General. It seems to refer to one who neglects
to pay the social security tax for one's nanny.

The suffix "-gate" hos come to mean an illegal scenerio, from the
earlier "Watergate" incident. A Nanny is an English child care provider.

A "nanny" is also what liberals want the government to be.

Sure: considerate, polite, informative, helpful, respectful, and
caring.

About a year ago, my friend, Dan, used the word? felch. He told me what it
likely meant, but I had never heard of felch before. Is there anyone who
can confirm the word felch...I will save the definition for later as it may
offend.

response 137 of 163: Mark Unseen   May 8 03:57 UTC 1995

I know of a Felch St; other than that, havn't got a clue.
luci
response 138 of 163: Mark Unseen   May 8 04:35 UTC 1995

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have to do with a street. From the way Dan explaine
d it, it's pretty gross. I'm not so much enamored with the word, because it is
gross, but I guess I'm just curious as to if it is practiced enough to warrant
having a word to refer to it by. It boggles my mind.

response 139 of 163: Mark Unseen   May 8 06:41 UTC 1995

I've known people with the surname Felch - and no one considered it
"gross". (Felch St. comes from Alpheus Felch, 1806-1896, governor of
Michigan 1846-47, US senator 1847-53, professor of law 1879-83.)

I guess it must be either very esoteric or just slang, then. Oh well.
Thanks for responding about it.

#133: What kind of silly baby would want their government to be considerate,
polite, informative, helpful, respectful and caring? Is that what
the founders of this country wanted the government to be?

#135: He forgot because he gets what he wants but we all pay.

Re #143: well, you do for one. We've heard from you that you consider the
government inconsiderate, impolite, uninformative, unhelpful,
disrespectful and uncaring - and, to perhaps a less degree, I agree with
you. And yes, the founders of the country wanted the government to be
those things to the citizens: they said so themselves. "...to form a more
perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for
the common defense, promote the general welfare, and to secure the
blessings of liberty...". The blessings of liberty are best secured if we
are all decent and respectful to one another. You think that's being a
"silly baby", huh? You must be a closet Michigan Militia member.
