In mathematics, ergotic refers to persistent, non-null and non-periodic
Markov chains. I have no idea how that is related to 1, 2 or 3, above,
although it must derive from the same latin root.

ergotic 7 (aruba) ---> Ding! Ding! Ding! Winner!

  Ergotic \Er*got"ic\, a.
Pertaining to, or derived from, ergot; as, ergotic acid.

Congrats, Mark, you're up!

(That still doesn't explain ergotic chains and the famous "ergotic
hypothesis".)

You're thinking of "ergodic", Rane. I didn't expect to win that one - I
will come up with a word soon.

OK, I'm thinking of a 7-letter word that's not

ergotic 0 (lastword)

BTW Rane, since you're always hanging around, why nbot make a guess? :)
