Dan is quite right that other organizations have gonr out and
solicited money, and we haven't. It's certainly hurt us.
Mary (and others) are quite right that things like phone calls
are evil and would certainly turn some (large?) percentage off,
maybe forever.
We have to tread carefully here. One of the things that will
help is the Sun-4. ANother would be classes, "Grex 101" or something
like that, were we show people how to use the system.
We can indeed market ourselves better, because as Dan says, its
hindered us.

I'd be put off by phone solicitation, too. I do appreciate the e-mail
renewal reminders I've gotten, though, and wouldn't mind *occasional*
paper mail or e-mail solicitations if I were a heavy non-member Grexxer.
While I can see why the motd plugs get annoying for regular users,
part of their rationale is that a lot of users don't know that Grex is
run on donations. Perhaps the motd plugs should be made less frequent
(they've been running around 20% of days since 11/3), but I hope that
they're raising general Grexxer awareness that Grex runs on donations.

I'd like to see what a couple of months of the 20% duty cycle does
for Grex before we do anything more about MOTD ads. I really really
want to keep things as low key as we can.
Once the Grex brochure is out and we have copies of it, it can
certainly include things like an explaination of how we exist, if
it doesn't mention that already. Same thing for flyers.

fwiw, we just had one of our worst months for donations in a long time.
Donations totalled just $224, which does not even pay for our phone bill.

I would think December might be an especially difficult
month for most everyone's budget. How has in gone in
past years? Are those figures handy?

December is usually a slow month, but this month was really bad.
Last December, we collected $394 in membership dues.

At least ajax understands how the motd ads get annoying.
Popcorn, I'm hoping your comment was missing a smiley, regarding
myself. I'd really like to think that ad hominems like that are not
your style.
