"Loud" is probably not definitive then, Twila. If it was, say, "loud
cacophonous instrumentation that's been popular in rock music lately,"
I might understand. But then I've also noticed that metal and
industrial genres do appeal to young red-blooded males.

Well, it's hard for me to assess. And since he's six and a half years yohnger
than me (which makes him 39 this year, I believe), I wouldn't call him young
or anything like that --- I mean, I know what Metallica sounds like, and I
know what rap (currently) sounds like, and I know what kinds of music the
15-19 year old segment of white suburban males in Ann Arbor listen to (hey,
even if I don't like it, I *listen* to my son's music :-), but it's like none
of those things.

probably some odd strain of industrial or hard metal that is far from
the mainstream you describe.

Of course, what I listen to is pretty far from the mainstream. :-)
