I have an idea. Let's derail this bid and turn the item into a chat about the
ignore command.

response 20 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 01:57 UTC 2003

By the way, you guys should feel lucky; technically, MINORS CANNOT ENTER INTO
A CONTRACT WHATSOEVER. THEREFORE, I WIN EITHER WAY.

THanks,
FATty.

Bids in the auction are not a contract, but they are a promise to pay what
you bid, if you win the bidding. I'm confused by responses 18 and 19. Are
you withdrawing your bid or not, polytarp? I'm not playing this game of in
and out - either you're a serious bidder, or you won't be allowed to bid on
anything in the auction.

response 22 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 16:02 UTC 2003

Polytarp identified himself, in resp:20, as not being qualified to
enter into a contract. If he feels that way, he shouldn't be bidding
here.

(He's wrong; he can spend cash and that's got to be at least an implied
contract, doesn't it? But I wouldn't think Grex is interested in
getting into legal entanglements if he chooses to regard himself in
that way.)

Given the user and the circumstances, the safe bet would be to
automatically disregard anything entered into the auction conference by
this user, including both bids and donation items.

I don't know if Backtalk is designed to allow blacklisting of specific
users, but given the nature of the bidding process, it is definitely
worth considering in order to minimize confusion and preserve the
integrity of the process.

I think polytarp still wants to participate in the auction of this item. He's
just stated that if he wins, he does not want to actually receive the
item(although) he'll still contribute the winning amount.

Given the range of things he has stated, I would put no faith in anything
he says, which best suggests ignoring all of it.

response 26 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 17:14 UTC 2003

I'm not comfortable excluding someone based on past disagreements with
people. I *am* comfortable excluding someone based on demonstrated
lack of payment for things in the past, and for withdrawing bids. That's
why I'd like to know if polytarp is withdrawing his bids.

response 27 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 17:16 UTC 2003

Todd and Eric slipped in. WHat Todd says is what I *think* polytarp is
saying, but I'm not sure.

Mr Plesco is absolutely correct.

response 29 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 19:13 UTC 2003

Mark, it's your call, so I support your option to do what you feel is
appropriate.

For the record, I remain skeptical.
aruba
response 30 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 19:54 UTC 2003

OK, we'll accept your bid, polytarp. Think of it as a chance to impress
Eric with your degree of responsibility. If you win the item, pay for it,
and then declare that you don't want to receive it, that's between you and
Todd.
polytarp
response 31 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 20:51 UTC 2003

I"VE ALREADY DECLARED I DON"T WANT IT,, !!!
other
response 32 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 22:10 UTC 2003

Then it shouldn't be a problem for you to make the declaration again once
you have sent in the money.
polytarp
response 33 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 27 23:05 UTC 2003

I refuse.
aruba
response 34 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 28 01:07 UTC 2003

Like I said, that'll be between you and Todd.
polytarp
response 35 of 63: Mark Unseen   May 28 02:33 UTC 2003

It's also between me and OTHER.
