Just finished _The Chamber_ by John Grisham.
Gripping, fast paced, and is something you will not want to lay down
even for a moment. Deals with the death penalty and the issues surrounding
it. It was 676 pages long and only took 3 days to polish off. A record
for me, I think.

re#106: I just finished Sula last night. I had to read it for my English
class. I was really surprised that required reading could be so
interesting. You're right, she did a lot in just a few pages. A very
good book!

I have read all of Mary Higgins Clark's books, and I have to admit that
she is my FAVORITE author! I just got done reading LET ME CALL YOU SWEET
HEART and am in the process of reading REMEMBER ME and they both were very
good!!!!! (by the time you read this i'll have REMEMBER ME all done) I like
tthe way that she plots the mystery, so that you think it's one person or a
series of people, and then it ends up not who you think that it is. Anybody
have any other suggestions on any REALLY good authors?

Re #75: The 19th Amendment, giving women the vote nationally, was ratified
in 1920.

Although the last book I read was _The Geis of the Gargoyle_, (the most recent
[I think] in the Xanth series), I seem to be on a female author kick: Anne
McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, Patricia Cornwall are the names I look for in the
library, if I'm not looking for anything in particular.

_To Kill a Mockingbird_ by Harper Lee. I read this one as a child but I
don't think that back then I fully understood the gravity of that book, As
an adult who is conserably more educated that I once was, I found it to be
a moving piece of literature, and a reflection of what we were and now are.
I hope that because this work has liberal use of the word "nigger" and some
rather unpleasant and un politically correct portraits of the black
community of Maycomb it is not taken from us. This one can only make you more
strong in your views about racism.
"...shoot all the bluejays you want, but it is a sin to kill a mockingbird"

Last book I read: "Love in the Night", an F. Scott Fitzgerald
short story bound into a book all by itself. A wonderful little
romance. Mary gave it to me for our anniversary.

Next-to-last book I read was Vladimir Nabokov's autobiography
"Speak, Memory." A truly wonderful book, with passages I shall
always remember and will want to re-read.

At the moment I am reading "Maia" by Richard Adams. I have read it before
but when I saw it sitting on the $2 table at David's books, I couldn't
resist...It is such a great book!

Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. I bought it on Marlene's
recommendation that it was a good read. It was. It was also thoroughly bloody
and a little gross, but nonetheless a great read. Polisghed it off in 4 days.

The Green Mile by Stephen King- I could shoot him for writing such a good
book then breaking up into 6 parts, and releasing each part month by month.
The book deals with electricutons, and being on death row. Not exactly fun
stuf, but hey, this is Stephen King, Mr Horror. ;)

I am currently reading Firestarter, by you know who. good stuff from his
classic era. I recently bought God Knows by Joseph Heller, and I can't wait
to read it.

The other day I picked up _Piano Lessons_ by Noah Adams. Mr. Adams, as
some of you probably know, is the host of NPR's "All Things Considered".
The book chronicles his first year as an adult piano student. It talks
some about music, pianos, personal (more like intimate) challenges, and
learning about ourselves. And tucked into almost every page - something
of life's minutiae given eloquent attention.

I'm enjoying it a whole lot.

The last book I read was "City" by MacAulay. It is a story with black-and-
white illistrations about Roman planning and construction. The pictures
give a lot of info that the text doesn't. I would recomend it as a
first-class book.

C. S. Lewis's Narnia books are great! JSL or Kingjon.

Reading the second Dune book, just reread the first to procrastinate while
not doing a research paper, the sequels for an opinion paper.
