omni--it is good for relaxation, but after a certain point too much relaxation
can be stressful.

If you're trying to get rid of people, just pull out the Yoko Ono...

Ah. Yoko Ono. as talent-challenged as my left toe.

Ravi is another driver away, but I like ragas, so I'm weird.

yoko had planned a world tour earlier this year, with the first performance
to be in san diego. the entire tour was cancelled because only twelve tickets
were sold for the san diego show.

Twelve tickets? Heeeee! The Beach Boys wer likewise canceled here due to
poor ticket sales. I wish someone would tell them to give it up already.

Poor sales for the Beach Boys? The last concert I went to in '87 was pretty
full.

omni: Ppl here (Interlochen that is,) view Yanni's music with distase because
it's "boring" and "because he can't read music".
Personally, I really haven;t heard anything of his, so I reserve judgement.
*My* fav operas (or operettas): Romeo et Juliette, Fledermaus, Merry Widow,
The Turn of the Screw (a very depressing opera by Britten), Cosi Fan Tutte
(amoung other Mozart works), The Telephone(sp) (woo hoo for IAA opera
workshop!), Tosca, Otello, La Cenerentola (LExi can check my sp (; ), Traviata
(yeah, it's overdone, but who could not like "Sempre Libra"?).....okay, this
list is too long....<is a voice major, what can you expect?> (;

I had a friend who heartily reccomended turn of the screw, but I've never seen
it performed, or even been able to get my hands on a recording. What is it
like?

The music is awesome, the plot based on that novel, (with the same title,m
of course), I really liked it. It was depressing, I;ll warn you, but good.

It's based on the Henry James ghost story. It was very scary when
I saw it performed in Aspen about 6 years ago. {Probably my
favorite Britten opera.

obviously
the question is:
why?
orinoco
response 117 of 141: Mark Unseen   Dec 16 22:39 UTC 1997

I belive this question's been answered once already - Theatre.
Although granted in this item the topic of conversation is more inclined
towards the music...

This opera item began in a 1996 Agora conference; from there it was
linked to Music1. Music1 is now a retired conference; there is a
current opera item in the current music conference, item:music,21

Amalgam is welcome to play with this old fossil, but few of the
current readers of the music conference will see responses entered
here.

uhhhhhhhhh.....ok.....ummm, aside from the obviously fantisy themes
of most operas, what the smeg does opera have to do with
gameing?
just curious

response 121 of 141: Mark Unseen   Mar 6 03:14 UTC 1998

<sigh> I think this is the third time, and counting, that this question has
come up...
I belive the reason was that originally we wanted something of a theater
element for this conf. as well. That never really materialized, but we did
put 'theater' in the login screen as one of the topics of discussion, so the
item got linked in.

Yha, I suppose this could tie in with stage combat too, if you count Viking
maidens waving spears around <j/k>
I dunno, have I judged our audience wrong? Should I enter/link in some
tehater items?
