Interesting- topic sounds broad enough to allow a wide user
base..

that's the point....it is a general interest topic, with hopefully something fo
everybody. :)

Lots of choices for header art - e.g., whatever body part is in the
headlines this week. I'm currently into cholecystology......

That's a little hard to do in ASCII...

I've been operating under the premise that cfadm should be mailed with the
actual "we've discussed it, now we want it". This removes any doubt as to
whether or not somebody really wants to have the conference, and is willing
to fw it. That may well be a change from the traditional method. I could
change back if it's important enough.

When I was doing conference creation, I'd usually send mail to
the proposer and likely fw's of a new conference, asking if
they still wanted the conference. That had the effect of
eliciting mail confirmation, and also would tend to move
discussion of nitty-gritty details about conference setup (like
appearance of login screen, join aliases, etc.) to mail.

I've also mailed people to prod them into mailing cfadm with an OK.

I've created the health and fitness conference ("j health" to join), but it
may still be empty, until eeyore gets the honor of entereing the first item.

About the commnets conf... Valerie, you might want to just create this
yourself, if you know the details already, and especially if you have some
ASCII art in mind. It isn't that hard to create one, and it would be just
as much work or more if I had to extract all the information from the
appropriate people. Or let me know if you just want a simple setup with the
names of the f-ws.

why does it have to have fancy ascii art anyway???

sorry, scott, that i never mailed you...i thought that it took a bit
more discussion...:)

It doesn't. Some people are into ascii art; others are not.

Right. I tend to use zero ascii art for the cf's that I fairwitness.

Um, you're asking me? Hmm, I think Enigma and Arts are the
conferences I fw these days.

My personal opinion on large ascii art conference logins is
that I wish folks didn't use them. They are fun maybe the
first 20 times you see 'em then they simply take up time
and require another hit of the spacebar before getting
to what's new in the conference.

I'd prefer anything that needs to be repeated as often as
a conference login be as succinct as possible. But others
seems to get a charge out of login graphics no matter how many
times they're shown. No big deal. They're easy enough to ignore.

Jan, what about using the mostly neglected 'jallyware' conference?
I think your wants is within the original view of its fairwitness,

response 116 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 10 17:21 UTC 1995

Shouldn't that be "jellyware", STeve? :)

response 117 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 10 18:25 UTC 1995

Hmm... I thought it was "jollyware." I was about to check it for
Santa Claus costume info. Good thing I stopped here first.

   Well yeah--but I was close...
scott
response 119 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 10 18:45 UTC 1995

Well, I first thought that STeve meant "jillyware", but then remembered that
tht is just an alias for the "Sex" conference. :)

response 120 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 11 06:34 UTC 1995

My perception has been that "jellyware" is focused on general Unix issues,
not technical issues specific to Grex. But that certainly is a possibility.
gregc
response 121 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 11 08:13 UTC 1995

More like general C/Unix/Programming issues, but you're right, jellyware
is not specific Grex issues.
steve
response 122 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 13 03:04 UTC 1995

Well, why not pry open the concept of jellyware a little and add
that? It's a technical issue, and is certainly tangential to the
original concept of the conference. Unless I'm mistaken, jellyware
doesn't get a tremendous amount of use, does it?

Who takes care of updating the "help conf" list after a conference is created?
I know that grexohio was listed there at one time but I couldn't find it there
anymore!

response 124 of 136: Mark Unseen   Jan 2 03:06 UTC 1996

Interesting. I don't see it there anywhere, either. (The people responsible
can be reached by email to cfadm@cyberspace.org, BTW.)

I don't know what would have happened to it.

Robert, exactly what did it say? And in what section? (I'm fairly sure
I was the one who set that up, & I remember asking you & almost remember
your answer.) Mail cfadm with info, & one of us will fix it. Me, if
my PC avoids hanging long enough at critical points.
