I don't see the point in restricting this vote to members. For things
like board elections and membership proposals, it makes sense to limit the
voting to members, since they are the ones who are paying for the system
and should have the final say on things, but when we're just suing the
vote program as a tool to help come to consensus it would seem to me that
we should go for wide input.

We've spent nearly a month just deciding on a name.
How long is it going to take to actually produce an issue? :)

if Rane has formally proposed a vote on the name of the newsletter,
it should be by members. This is how proposals are voted on, as
I understand it.

This item wasn't entered as a "formal proposal" item, so there's no
formal proposal at this stage. If a member wants the newletter name to
be decided by vote of the members, then according to the bylaws, they
can enter such a proposal as a separate item and, following a two-week
discussion period, an online vote would be held over a period of 10
days. Only members' votes would count in deciding the outcome.
I'd prefer that the formal member vote not be taken on this, but it's
not in my power to decide that.
And, of course, I still like "Respond or Pass". :)

I think that since we are only trying to see which name will be the most
popular, we should open the vote to everyone.

I agree.
This item now has almost as many responses as the original item
proposing a newsletter. If we pour too much energy into choosing
a name, there'll be none left over to produce the newsletter itself.

I'm stalling, hoping that bartlett will reappear and continue with an
interest in being editor - but you're right, so lets get on with it. And
since the most popular opinion is to have an open vote, let's do that. The
"final" list of suggested names is in /u/rcurl/news.name

in doing this?

When remmers gets the time. The plan is to vote for up to five (5) of
the list on the first "round", right? Also,l while we're waiting, check
out /u/rcurl/news.name, to see what names have been suggested (or to
make any newe suggestions, if there's time).

(Sigh... Think I'll have to set aside half a day soon for vote program
setup. I'm already way behind in setting up the Academy Awards vote.)

Don't worry none about the Academy Awards vote. It's probably getting
a little too late to do that at this point and it certainly isn't
important.

The Academy Awards vote is over and done. Now, what's the chance of
getting this vote back on the boards (it has been a month.....).?
The candidate newsletter names are in /u/rcurl/news.name - and there
have also been no additions to that.

Can I add "Pulp Function" to the list? Yeah, there's that movie, but still
think it is appropriate for how I use Grex :)

"Pulp Function", like I said.. there was no mispelling. I call it pulp
because it is fun to read, keeps growing everyday, does not have a lot
of hard info (at least not in Agora). Function for the computer side :)

Not bad...the newsletter would use a lot of paper pulp, so it would be
something of a pulp function. :)

How about: alt.grex.stories (draw in the titillation minded).
Or "The Paper Conference" (imply that it's a Grex conference, printed
on paper instead of available through Picospan).
