Lebowski, yeah.
He looks just like 2 guys I knew that both had "Hoff..." at the beginning of
their last name. Does that make me a racist?

Although I'd also be perfectly happy to see Heath Ledger win it for
Brokeback Mountain. That script sat on the shelf for years because
they couldn't get a name star to play the lead. No big star wanted to
play the lead in a movie where the part was a character who's in love
with another man and the movie was about that relationship. Their
agents probably said it was "career suicide" to take that part. The
only reason the movie got made was because Heath Ledger agreed to be in
it. It was a risky move for him, and it paid off because he's really
good in it.

it is a pity that none of the songs nominated is fit to be played in public.
What the hell has music come to when the nominations are for songs glorifying
violence, racial discrimination and foul vile language.

re #106: if that's true, it's highly ironic because I'd bet that
practically *nobody* has gone to see the movie thinking "I'll go
see that new Heath Ledger movie.."

Yeah--that Dolly Parton is quite the pottymouthed whore, isn't she?:

God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain
Oh sweet Jesus if you're listening, keep me ever close to you
As I'm stumblin', tumblin', wonderin', as I'm travelin' thru

there was one song maybe on the list that was "unfit", but the other
two were fine, I thought.

anyway, any thoughts on the show from last night?

I hate it when something wins best picture and not best director. If Paul
Haggis directed the Best Picture of the year, Crash, than why was he not
the Best Director. Conversely if Ang Lee did the best directing job of
the year did he not direct the best picture?

it's just an excuse to have more prizes available. they're all pre assigned
anyway, you don't really think they get voted do you?
richard
response 121 of 153: Mark Unseen   Mar 6 16:10 UTC 2006

they are not all "pre-assigned", don't be ridiculous.

IMO Jon Stewart was a bust as the host. I like Stewart on his show a lot,
but I don't think the Oscars is the best gig for his skills

Also I suppose the conservatives considered Dolly's song unacceptable because
its the the theme song for a movie about a transexual-- TransAmerica. "God
made me fo ra reason and nothing is in vain", the lyrical lament of the
transexual she is writing about.

Is the conservative position that God makes some people for no reason and
some things are in vain? Actually that does make a lot more sense. Maybe
I'm a conservative.

I enjoyed Jon Stewart's hosting, but I'll certainly admit that wasn't
his crowd and the fit wasn't as good as, say, Billy Crystal when he was
at his best.

The opening thing with the previous hosts was funny, as were the
campaign commercials for best actress. I also thought Ben Stiller was
pretty funny.
