I'll be there cheering on the home team, from section 334 row D (front row
of seats). Want to see my view? It looks very much like this right here:

My brother-in-law Dave (a Wings fan) will be attending tonight's hockey game.
We're gonna get there about 5pm and enjoy the festivities. I will be taking
my camera and posting pictures of the fun on the web site.

It would have sucked to stay up, having watched an entire game in Overtime,
to see the Red Wings lose. Thank goodness they didn't disappoint me.

Woowoo. I'm beginning to think that the new rule for the Stanley Cup is:
Whoever gets three goals in a game first, wins.

It was disappointing to lose, but I have to admit, it was a GREAT hockey game.
The third longest in Stanley Cup Finals history.

#103> Even if the 'Canes do go on to lose the Cup, I don't think anyone in
the right mind could say that they didn't put on one Hell of a show, proving
the critics wrong. Both teams deserve the Cup, and it's a pity that only one
team can win it.

This Stanley Cup finals is proving to be a lot more exciting than I first
expected, and after three, it's still not clear who's going to win it.

The Wings did look flat in game 1, and most of game 2. In the 3rd period of
game 2, they finally started playing, and Carolina did a fantastic job holding
on as long as they did. More of the same in game 3.
For as long as I've been following the sport, the Redwings have always had
an extra gear, another level that they can crank it up to. They can't always
find it, but when they do, I've never seen another team to match them, except
maybe the Avs when they're hot. Carolina is a great team playing at their
best, but if the Wings can keep finding that extra gear, ain't nobody gonna
stop 'em.

Has the AVs-Wings rivalry cooled down? I don't remember the same level of
vitrol during the series this year as in the past. And Game 7 was, well, the
Red Wings in full gear, a bloodbath.

That's true. I always say the the Wings have a much better ability to adjust
their game to their opponent at a faster pace. Quite frankly, I love the way
the Canes are taking it to them and I personally would love to see Ron Francis
serve Barry Melrose a big fat plate of crow.

Paul slipped.

I live in DC - but from what I can tell, it's still a pretty wicked rivalry
- which seems assinie at this point.

The Avs-Wings rivalry might be a little less heated this year than in previous
years, but I still think it's the only significant rivalry the Wings fans
have. This year there weren't a lot of penalties, in part because the series
was so close (and the referees weren't making shit up like in the finals).

I just remember a few years ago, the Wings-Avs series being the Stanley
Cup-level series, and the actual Stanley Cup playoffs being dessert for
whoever won. The Wings certainly didn't come into this Stanley Cup like that
(and good thing, too... after a 7-0 humiliation, if they'd come in with the
attitude of, "Well, give us the cup, let us squash these pesky Canes first,"
the Wings'd've been the ones humiliated).

Tonight was one of the most pathetic games I've ever had the displeasure of
seeing Carolina play. Carolina managed only 17 shots on goal, none of which
really tested Dominik Hasek. They could barely skate the puck out of their
own zone, much less through center ice. They couldn't control the puck on
their own power plays either (of which there weren't many).

One might say that the Wings silenced the ESA crowd. One who did would
probably be wrong. The 'Canes themselves silenced the ESA crowd.

I wouldn't mind a shutout so much if it was because the opposing goaltender
put on a grand performance. But that was not the case.

Disgusting. I hope they play better in Detroit, I'd really like to see one
more hockey game down here in Raleigh before the season is over :)

i'm glad to hear that you, too, were disgusted. this is the first game i've
been able to see and i was really expecting a decent game. i even dragged my
ass out to the pub to see the 3rd on the big screen, mistakingly thinking
carolina would get their shit together.

Oh, I didn't realise you lived in Raleigh, or forgot, Ric. Hope the
weather's down there.

I'm really starting to like hockey. From a complete amatuers
standpoint, I still thought the Hurricanes were impressive.

Oh, and nothing personal, but we're going to crush you guys. Stanley's
coming back to Motown, Baby! :)

Now, hopefully I don't have to eat my words. ;)

Heh. I dont really watch hockey but I always get a kick of the mania
people seem to go through whenever the Red Wings are in the playoffs.
This morning, I was standing next to the traintracks waiting for the
train to pass and the engineer waved a Red Wings flag at me as the
train passed. It made me chuckle a little bit.

It seems, to me at least, more heart pounding than most US sports
pasttimes. It makes me think of rugby but with skates and a stick. :)

It makes me think of when I lived in the Sault and had no cable TV so I
only got the 4 Canadian stations. That is when I learned that it is
*always* "Hockey Night in Canada!"

Typically during hockey season, we could get 3 different games on 4
stations with the 4th station broadcasting the same game as another
station but in French.
