Proposal: Add a line to the moTD telling ppl how to exit unwanted write
sessions (oops)

The only problem with that, is that then everyone gets to see it
over and over again.
How about a 'tip' command (that we advertise in the motd?) that
lists all those little things that a newcomer might need?

Sounds good to me... But I think the specific case I mentioned is important
enuf to be in the MOTD for a while, at least.

Hey, what if we put a different tip in the MOTD everyday? Could a script
be written to do this? It could also serve to keep people interested in
reading it, too.

I think that nephi is suggesting something similar to the "fortune"
program.

well, i sort of skipped to the end, so forgive me if i'm suggesting something
that has already been suggested.
why not, when somebody is "talked", put in something as simple as a yes/
no question as to whether or not you would like to talk to them. that way,
people like me could deal without turnign off their messages, but still not
talk to everybody who comes our way. it would be like knocking to get into
a closed party channel.

I think that would take a non-trivial amount of programming to implement,
but I like that idea!!!

well, we should probably let the higher-ups decide on whether or not they like
the idea...

<sigh> dunno about the word "higher-ups", but I think the question here
is more one of finding programming time to make this change, as much as
anything else. I dunno about you, but I'd like to see the router working
OK and the disk stop losing files, first.

Losing files?? That would be a paramount concern...
