Re #98: You're assuming that mail coming from an open relay is likely
to be anything other than spam. I believe you're wrong.

I've gotten legit mail from sites that were running open relays. It's a
common source of 'false positives' on blacklist spam filters, in fact.

A lot of the machines that send spam to grex *aren't* open relays. A
lot of it is forwarded from other places, including people who forward
mail, mailing lists (Canter & Spiegel were big on mailing lists), stupid
people who get throwaway ISP accounts, etc.

Re #99: If the relay crashes from congestion it's a little harder
to ignore. If spam-friendly relays crash reliably it'll probably
get the problem fixed, as people will stop installing open relays
(they will quickly see the results).
