"4/8/99 Dream" by Joe Parish

she comes to me
running faster and faster
afraid of fear
and the little death
she runs like there's nothing else
she runs to me
but can't bring herself to touch
or taste todays oblivion
she runs to me and stops
one short breath away
her lips tremble
with shaking hands she reaches
and runs her fingers above my skin
never touching
or letting the fear in
she plays catlike games
batting at the air
in hopes of forgiveness
or forgetfullness
knowing that nothing changes
and nothing goes burning
or breaks without remorse
closer and closer she comes
almost touching
almost letting me in
but she knows me
knows I'll bring my fear
and all of the little death
hot thin trails
trace her untouching passage
and my only desire
is one brief moment of contact
but I know too well
that it would bring her demise

"she comes to me" is such a cliche romantic line that it's kind of neat to
see it followed by "running faster and faster" - completely breaks with what
I would've expected.

Interesting.

Can I assume "the little death" is a reference to sex?

I'm not exactly sure what the hell I was talking baout with "the little
death" and only realized too late that it would be assumed that it was
meant to be sexual...it's not supposed to be...but I wrote this down
without thinking about it...I just had to get it out real fast before I
forgot it, so I don't remember what I meant by that particular bit

I agree with dan on his point. (;
soemthing I noted:

>but she knows me
>knows I'll bring my fear
>and all of the little death

that last line I quoted -- is that a typo? shoul dit be "All of
the little deaths?"
