Julie and Jon come to A2. Mark Unseen   Apr 13 06:59 UTC 1999

We're coming to A2 this June, from the 12th to the 20th. Sindi and Jim
have offered us a place to stay, but we are open to other hosts.

We'd also like some ideas on what to see..

I'll add more later..

Jon, to give people an idea of what sorts of things might interest you, could
you tell us what you would show visitors to your part of the world?
Jon and Julie are very welcome to stay with us the whole time, but I think
it would be more fun for them to see how other people lived as well, and there
is the minor problem of Jon (at 6'1") being longer than my guest bed (double).
Would anyone like to host them for a couple of days out of this period?
Or take them to visit the sights? Such as Lansing and Elderly Instruments?
Detroit and the Henry Ford Museum? A Michigan state park and/or a Great Lake?

The orchestra instructor at our university recommended U of M, of
course, and I suppose quite a bit of my interest would be music-related,
providing Julie's not too bored.

The best glb scene near where we live is the Capitol Hill area of
Seattle. There's the Aero, which is a drag bar; The Cuff, which is a
leather-theme bar (not an entirely pure leather scene); the Wild Rose,
and Neighbor's, both mixed-gender bars. To buy leather, the Crypt and
Fantasy Unlimited are nearby, and the Pink Zone has general glb pride
items. There are also a few glb bookstores. Most everything is on or
nearby Broadway Street.

Julie and I were only there for a short evening, so I don't know how
interested she is in the A2 glb scene, especially as we don't drink.

Closer to where we live is Roslyn, home of the famous Roslyn Cafe shown
in the opening credits to "Northern Exposure." The restaurant where
other scenes were shown is also there, of course, in addition to a
fabulous bakery, a quaint moviehouse, and a popular homestyle pizzeria.

Besides Seattle, which many of you are familiar with, is mostly boredom.
Things relax much more considerably from Ellensburg to the Tri-Cities,
which is just about everything east of the Cascades. I like Julie's
hometown of Yakima a lot, but many people find the city incredibly
boring. (I didn't grow up in urbania-- I grew up in Kennewick, one of
the three Tri-Cities, which has pockets of county within city limits.
I've observed both small city and rural life.)

I'm not quite sure what Julie is interested in. As I have said
elsewhere, we are primarily concerned with meeting the people of Grex :)

I know the Nectarine has glb night, and I like dancing there. I
don't know if you two like dancing or not...
