Heh, "grunge" was said to be the last gasp of progressive rock (started
in the 70s) in a number of ways.

I never quite saw the link (other than geographical) between the
various bands labelled "grunge".
Perhaps it's just that I liked Nirvana but detested Pearl Jam,
Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains..
Anyway, it really was unfortunate that Cobain's suicide cut short
the group's career. The posthumously released "Unplugged" album
is really a wonderful performance..

what is the difference between punk and grunge ?
Charles Aaron commenting on Nirvana :
"Because we don't believe in God, because we don't believe in
politics, because some of us come from less-than-ideal families, we insist
on indulging in a warped, presumptuous romanticism of pop-culture figures that
is unfair, unsatisfying and destructive. And we never wise up. The most
vivid image I have of Cobain is from the last Nirvana show I saw, in November
of '93 at New York's Roseland. On a big stage, bare except for wiry red roses
poking up here and there, he stood stoically before a sold-out moshing mob,
singing song after song, sounding better than ever, but looking totally
defeated. The room became a free-for-all as the band played "Smells Like Teen
Spirit", and a barrage of debris flew toward the stage--bottles, boots,
flannel shirts.Cobain never flinched, screaming as if locked in a trance, a
professional punk, going through the motions because we wanted him to.
The barrier between performer and audience was like a Berlin Wall; he must've
felt like an idiot for ever trying to jump over. We were lucky to have him for
as long as we did. "

hey cyklone....
det it know....
Grunge is a brand of music combining the deep riffs, with angry, and
sometimes depressing lyrics. The music started off as an anti-thesis to
the popular music scene of the time, and soon formed a niche of it's
own. It was immensely popular among the youth at the time, as it seemed
to resonate with their own feelings of insecurity, and loneliness.

the gist was that grunge wasn't anything new, but was the last of of a
trend in rock: note that a lot of new rock acts are fusing into hip-hop
a lot. I don't know, and I can't remember.
Let's just say that the punk-to-grunge was an evolution of The Angry
Young Man.

i am coming to this discussion after a long time but i have a serious issue to
discuss with all you people....who are fan of nirvana and infact kurt cobain...
many times i had read that it was courtney love...who killed kurt
cobain.....directly or indirectly... i mean some folks say she hired a man to
kill her husband for $50,000 and some say she tortured him in a way that he
killed himself and had a heavy dose of heroin but when an electrician found the
dead body of kurt cobain....and doctors did autopsy they told that after haing
such a high dose of heroine one can't pic the gun and shoot himself also one
can't even write the letter...so what was the reason for the death of kurt
cobain... also after criminal investigation they found that there was not even
a single finger print on the gun ..... so it seems to be a mystery for me
atleast...cause i always get the information through internet and fansites...
so if anyone can put some light on this issue ....i will feel blessed
........... being a discussion forum at grex i think people will tell the truth
only.... so please.... any of nirvana fan who knows the truth... can tell it to
me... mukesh...butail...india....

It's hard to completely disprove many conspiracy theories but there
doesn't seem to be much evidence for the far-fetched stories surrounding
Cobain's death. I believe the stories aren't credible and were made up
by fans who, for whatever reason, bitterly hate Courtney Love.
I've found many of the things people have written about her pretty
shocking -- not because I believe them to be true but because they
reveal a frightening level of hatred towards her.

but i have gone through man internet database and found that it was courtney
love who killed our beloved grunge legend "kurt cobain" but nevermind he will
be in our hearts forever and god bless her only kid....ms fraces cobain... and
his songs will never fade.... but grunge is dead and it won't be same as it was
in 90s may his soul rest in peace but someday god will surely tell us all the
truth... amen.... mukesh

hey purist....
what u said is true
but u may not be knowing the real story
he took three times the dose of heroin....and i think according to doctors...at
that state of mind and body one can not fold his sleeves and put his pen and
syringe far away in the box and shoot himself.... that much drug is enough to
kill someone so better know the story my dear see yeah
