I will be singing in a pre-Valentines fundraising concert for
Arbor Opera Theater on Thursday, February 10, at 7:30 PM. The
venue is the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church
Rd., in Ann Arbor. There will be several other singers as well,
and we will be singing a selection of romantic Broadway and
musical theater pieces. A selection of luscious desserts will
be included with admission, which is $15.

And a fine concert it was too!
I'm giving a talk on RSS to the EMU Computer Science Club on Wednesday.
More of an "at lectern" than "on stage" event, I suppose.

Re #18: Yep, I was there. The AACS presentation was very NET-centric,
which mine won't be. I'll focus on some of the more creative recent
applications of RSS such as podcasting and folksonimy support.
You can find out what concert I'll be playing in at the Scott Joplin
Festival the same way I just did, by looking at this page:

A slideshow of my RSS presentation is at <http://jremmers.org/RSS/>.
(MS Internet Explorer messes up the formatting a bit, so for best
results view it in a decent browser.)

Works OK in Netscape 7.2. Reminds me of a PowerPoint program. I'm not sure,
though, what RSS is doing differently than any web page with links.

Re. 21: Yeah, the fonts are a little squished together, but still
readable.
I've been hearing the term "wiki" more and more, but never heard what
that is.

Re resp:22: The key difference is that RSS is designed to be read by
programs and aggregated into lists of items, often from different pages.
For example, I have an RSS reader that pulls feeds from several security
websites and provides a news ticker of their headlines on my desktop.
Without it, I'd have to visit each site in turn to find out what's new.
Another use for RSS is as a syndication service. One web page can use
it to automatically pull in articles from another, much like newspapers
pull in stories from a wire service.
Thanks for the article, remmers. I was familiar with most of it, but I
was still unclear on what "podcasting" was all about.
