Country Music seems to be making a comeback. I'd like to know you'll's
favorite Country band or Singer. PIRATES OF THE MISSISSIPPI is my favorite.
Ain't it grand to be a hick and a red-neck?

Why? The self proclaimed "God of Silence" doesn't care what he says about
other people, so why should I put up with his crap???

Obviously you haven't read the ettiqute thingy on Grex. It wasn't self
proclaimed either, the true God, Vidar, doesn't have any problem with
me using his name or title. So long as I only use it for E-mail and
BBSing. I do care what I say about other people, and I don't usually
say anything inflamitory about anyone without a good reason, with the
exception of when I'm pissed off for any reason.

Is it true, as I've heard, that those who listen to C&W have a jigher
suicide rate?

There's an example of a scientific study being simplified into a media
report, and a media report being generalized into an urban legend.
The argument is that the more C&W stations in a city, the higher the
suicide rate there, or something like that. This is very likely to be
a coincidence, given that country music stations are more common in
Western states (hence the second half of the name), where the suicide
rate is higher for probably unrelated reasons.
In general, within North America, the suicide rate gets higher the further
west you go. California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska have the highest
suicide rates (places not noted for country music). Arizona, Nevada,
New Mexico, Coloraro, Idaho, Utah, Montana, etc., have fairly high rates,
but not as high as on the coast. Georgia has lots of country music but a
relatively low suicide rate.
The east-to-west pattern of suicide rates in North America has existed
for a long time, and nobody has ever come up with a convincing explanation.
The country music hypothesis simply doesn't wash.

After a recent trip to Nashville, I found out that country music is
very big in New Hampshire. I found that quite odd. I just don't
equate the New England frame of mind with country and western music.

This past weekend at my company's annual convention we had a Country Jamboree
on Friday night. Friday afternoon was spent with dance lessons poolside,
where I learned how to do the Tush Push, the Achy Breakey, and the Electric
Slide. It was a blast.

Obviously someone doesn't listen to the right band if he thinks all country
music is the same. Pirates keep their mouths out of loosing things and are
morepolitically minded people. I only heard four songs from them that had to
do with loosing anything, and it weren't the usual stuff.

Country line dancing is threatening to be the karaoke of the next
few years. Your help is desperately needed to avert this tragedy.

Indeed. When I'm surfing TV channels and flip to Nashville Network,
they're practically always doing line dancing. They used to do decent
stuff like old Gene Autry movies.
What is responsible for this appalling phenomenon? And how can I help?
