What stations do you listen to?
I don't do car radio music that often because I don't do many long
commutes, but periodically I drive into the Detroit area in the
afternoon, and usually listen to a Canadian program called "Disk
Drive". I forget the station's call letters, but the frequency is
89.9 FM. Eclectic selection of music -- classical, jazz, pop, folk --
with a lot of off-beat things and interspersed with nice commentary
from the DJ. Best kind of road music, to my taste.

The car has no radio. I have an ordinary portable cassette tape player
that I usually bring along when I commute. The tape player has a radio,
but it doesn't work very well.
The list in #0 is of tapes I've played in the car this week.

I have about half a dozen cassette tapes that I keep in my car. Bach
solo cello sonatas performed by Yo Yo Ma, Alicia de la Rocha (sp?)
performing Mozart piano sonotas, Kings Singers, Stephane Grappeli
playing jazz violin, and an anthology of Beach Boys cuts from the '60s.
The tape I listen to the most is the Grappeli (wonderful stuff), followed
by the Beach Boys.

Polygon is probably delighted to have escaped from listening to *my* tired
old car tapes, which I have been playing for so long that I'm getting
tired of them myself. Hedningarna/KAKSI, Cordelia's Dad/HOW WILL I SLEEP,
R.E.M. / LIFE'S RICH PAGEANT, highlight from GREEN and OUT OF TIME, and
AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE; a sampler of pop stuff Leslie made; a sampler
of my favorite opera bits; the first two CDs from the Richard Thompson
boxed set.
I'm cranking out a bunch of new tapes this weekend: a couple of Steeleye
Span albums I haven't played much for a while, the recent Easy Club and
English Country Blues Band albums. I hope to get a few other British Isles
folky things on tape tomorrow.

On the contrary, without your mobile tape library, I have to resort to
listening to my limited selection of tapes over and over again. :-)

Heh. I *still* listen to Kaski nearly every day! (But not on the
way to work --- that's reserved for *sigh* talk radio....)

I only have two tapes in my car at the moment.
Kate Bush _The DReaming_
Big Audio Dynamite II
once Doctor Demento returns to the Airways here, I may have more
much to the disgust to people who ride with me.

re #5: Be careful about wearing headphones on a bike. Not hearing
traffic noises could be dangerous.

What really strikes me as stupid is the people who ride their bikes on the
left side of the road, wearing headphones, not wearing helmets, and riding
right through stop signs without stopping or even looking. Now *THAT'S*
stupid.

One theory I've heard about cyclists who don't wear helmets is that they
don't wear helmets because there is nothing to protect. ;-)

Ay, now. There may some times when it's ok. to not wear one...I don't
wear my helmet if I'm just riding somewhere in the neighborhood, I like the
wind. On busy streetsit's more reasonable to wear one.

I'm still not so sure about the headphones, either. I'll call the
police or the Dept. of State tomorrow, and get back to you on this.

Yeah, and I can imagine that on a day like today, it might have been safer
not to wear some of the cheaper, less ventalated, helmets, because of the heat.
Mine, amazingly enough, still felt comfortable in this 95 degree temperature,
though. It's been a long time since I've ridden more than maybe half a block
without one. I've smashed enough of them to know that they are a good idea.
