Oh my GOD...it's that...that...*song*! =( Mark Unseen   Jul 25 17:57 UTC 1995

Okay...I know you've done it. You're driving in your car, listening to the
radio, dancing at a club, or just sunning on the beach...and then, it happens.
A song comes on the radio that makes you scream in terror, change the
station, and violently state that if they play that song *one more time* you
will wring the dj's neck. So...what *is* the worst song of all time? Share
your thoughts here. Discussion of any songs mentioned is encouraged, and
drift inspired by aforementioned songs is tolerated. =)

Wow, Sarah., you have really opened up the floodgates on this one. Lesseee.
Anything by Pearl Jam, Live, Soundgarden, Soul Asylum, Boyz II Men,
BLues Traveler, Melissa Etheridge, Bachman-Turner OVerdrive, any
country music, New Kids on the Block, REM, Green Day, Bob Seger, Mariah
Carey, etc. makes me scream in terror, change the station, and state
violently that i am going to wring the dj's neck.
       Thank You Very Much

Every time I hear "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone, I want to scream...
loudly....I want to go over to Debbie Boone's house and strangler her and/or
force her to sing "you light up my life, you make me whole" until she realizes
how bad it is.

As a general category, Country music makes me want to retch.

RE #1: Orwell, I wonder what radio stations you listen to. BTW, I prefer Boyz
II Men & Mariah Carey to most of your other listings. With the exception of
Bob Seger, as he is a local boy who made it big!

He was John Cougar when he recorded _Jack and Diane_. There also was a parody
of the song by the Bruiser Band (on WCSX - 94.7 FM) called _Bob and Dian_,
referring to the Bob Barker/Dian Parkinson sexual harassment suit that was
in the news last year.

I get sick of the stuff that is so popular that a lot of the stations that
play that sort of thing play it at least once an hour.
"misery" is a current example... I'm getting real sick of that one.

as for the worst song of all time, William Shatner's version of "Lucy in the
sky with diamonds." but fortunately it doesn't get much air time. ;)

I hate country, but the *worst* song ever to be heard on the *planet* is
"MacArthur Park" (sp?). The words 'truely hideous' don't even begin to
explain it.

I musch preferred William Shatner's version of "Rocket Man" (Elton John),
myself. :)

How about if we hijack this item and make it the "Awful celebrity music"
item? ;)

I have a lot of songs I hate, but I have to nominate anything by Michael
Bolton at the top of the category. Overplayed songs make my list a lot, too.

whoever is on the other end.

Hpmh.. not to stir up old net juvenilism, but I must say that anything
sung by Barney would be a song I'd love not to hear.

Anything sung by New Kids on the Block...its amazing how many kiddies
worshipped those no-talents a few years back. They were the epitome of
marketing, manipulation, excess and everything thats wrong with the world.

Any Rap music. ANy NIN. Any Country. Especially achy Breaky heart. I never
liked Nirvana, which when having their popularity explosion, had Smells like
Teen spirit palyed ALL the time. Anytime I hear that song I fall down
clutching my windpipe, and have to take medication till it passes. I'm not
kidding. Gives me kidney stones. is there anyone's taste in music I haven't
insulted yet?

Re 11, 12:
I always thought Nimoy would sing _The Logical Song_. (And Sarak could
sing the verse which goes "Sign up with me and I'll make you respectable,
etc.")

Okay...I've found my least favorite song. It happens to be that peppy,
annoying, blasphemous version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart". That song is
so sad and heartbreaking, and here's this annoying, peppy singer making it
into a teenybopper dance hit. AARGH!!!!!! =(
