I'm supposed to list my CD's in that level of detail?
Here is roughly, a few things I have
Most of the more recent Tom Waits
Some Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Fishbone, Thomas Dolby,
Aimee Mann, Counting Crows, Iggy Pop, some classical, and a lot
of other misc. stuff.
Not to mention vinyl.

No. You definitely don't have to list them in such detail. I just listed
them like that because I already had a catalog to keep track of them.
People kept asking what kind of music I liked, so I just FTPed it here.
It also seemed like a good idea to have a central place where poeple could
put their CDs (esp. favorite CDs), so they would only have to answer the
quetion once.

Your catalog was awfully long to be a response in an item,

approach.

well nephi, first i have a question for you. is your name "nephi"
taken from the band, "Fields Of The Nephilim"? um, my older bro
introduced me to some as did his friends. ive also been combing
the bins of music stores for 10 years. Sometimes ill just by an album if its
used and i trust the label its on. (ie; cleopatra, dischord, mute, combat
and revelation) or its based on reviews, buying compilations, stuff off
comps my friends make me. I love nothing more than sharing good music with
others, which is why i am very interested in trading compilations with
people, that way i can "discover" bands that i might not have ever heard before
or, may have forgotten. I also sometimes find bands at listening booths in
record stores, or seeing a band in concert opening up for a band i went to see.
radioplay is the smallest percentage of bands that im into.

A word of advice -- don't try to compete with KRJ's record collection.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I'm no slouch myself when it comes to collecting a lot of musical odds
and ends (more odds than ends..) but KRJ's collection is full of stuff
most people never suspect exists.

My CD buying follows two separate paths. There are the CDs
of music I didn't have recordings of to begin with and had
been meaning to pick up (sometimes for years). And you can
add to that the CDs of music I hadn't actually been intending
to buy, but I read an interesting review or it caught my eye
and the store. In other words, a seamless continuation of
my LP and cassette tape buying in the pre-CD era. The other
main path are the CDs of music I already have - sometimes of
the very same performance - that I just wanted to have on
CD for all the reasons people prefer CDs to other media.
I can't believe the grammar and typos in this response.
I better go get some coffee.
