Hello all, from the same happy fritter kind of gal who brought you the Tori
Amos discussion, here is yet another wonderful musician to discuss...
SARAH MCLACHLAN.....Tell us what you think, why you think, and what
prompted you to think.....errr....about Sarah McLachlan, that is.. *8)

Well, I like her music. Particularly I like "Solace".
Her newest cd wasn't exactly as good as I'd hoped for. In
fact the only song I listen to with any regularity off of it
is that "Ice Cream" song.
In general I'd want to hear her work before going out and buying it, whereas
say Tori Amos I'd buy in a second based on reputation.

I firmly believe that Sarah's most recent album is a piece of good work.
Perhaps it is not nearly as good as her _Solace_, but I think the songs on it
hold a deeper meaning than perhaps she is being given credit for. *shrug*

Ok, you got me. I haven't given her newest album a really good listen. :(
Truth is I don't think i've ever given it a straight listen through.
I probably should, but it just seemed what I heard of it didn't seem
particularly interesting. I think I'll give it at least another try.

Sarah's music isn't for everyone. I like her music because of the lyrical
content as well as the musical diversity I find present in each and every song.
I think Sarah demands you to listen to her music with an open, thought-
provoking frame of mind, but as I said before, her music isn't for everyone.
She deals with an awful lot of difficult topics in a blunt, but beautifully
poetic way.

That's how I felt about _Solace_ but the feeling didn't seem to
really carry over to the new album. Another listen is in order.

I think I have discovered the 'problem'. It has occurred (sp?) to me that Sarah
seems to mask her meanings for her songs in her first two albums behind
wonderful metaphors and comparisons, allowing the listener to create their own
meanings also hidden. Her third album sees her bringing her meanings to the
front and not really hiding them behind much of anything. Her third album is a
much more' naked' view of herself and her world. Can anybody see this as a
possibility?

McLachlan is wonderful. She plays Hill Aud. on March 16th.

I just picked up Solace today, and I like it quite a bit. She
has an amazing voice...

I recommend her first album, _Touch_. It isn't as well known as _Solace_, but
there are some good tunes on that one as well. :)

Sarah McLachlan, ahh, yes.Good stuff, not only in terms of musical writing
but also involving a refreshing breadth of artistry and talent.

I must admit at first I found her music enjoyable for its atmospheric
quality but really didn't care to hear anothsinger eting the over-
commercialized Irish Art School of vocalese (ie.Sinead, who made it pop,
and Eleanor McEvoy, who had great ideas, but limited herself in the process).
S.Malthough, had the gall and good taste torecord her own version of
the DONOVAN tuWear Your Love Like Heaven." COOL stuff. Nifty, I thought.

Along the road when people start realizing they have a "voice" and can
be "heard" by the general public, they want to convey a message,
a question of life and attitudes, in order to possibly change life
aspects and make this a better planet. ....at this point I usually
say "uh, oh.." and stop listening. This pandering usually gets to me
quite easily, since the things that change one's life don't come in
factory-sealed-for-your-protection-carefully-groomed-by-marketing packages.
The thigs that change your outlook on life are songs like "(Your Love is
Better Than) Ice Cream. Yeah man! We've already learned how to argue
amonst ourselves, and we've berough the ringer enough to learn
aboccountability. Time to stop crying & fighting and complaining about
it and....Holy cow! Things are actually pretty okay, sometimes even
downright awesome. Sometimes even better than Ice Cream.

theworld of pop female vocalists, too many are taking themselves too
seriously, or are limiting their credibility by trying desperately to
sound just like Kate Bush. Sarah McLachlan ain't one of '

sorry for the gobbledy-gook. This phone connectkinda sucks.
By the way, Who first recorded the song that Sarah Mac did a version
of for that soundtrack? Y'know, the "Freeways, Cars & Trucks" song?
Might it be an Eagles tune? Does anyone know?

I'm rather amazed that MacLachlan could sell out Hill before
I even knew the show was scheduled.

*Morgayn is going to explode rainbow twinkies with purple filling she is so
excited*
The concert is coming up. I've heard nothing but radically impressive reviews
of her previous shows on this the last leg of the FTE tour. Guys, I think we
are in for a real treat at Hill. Let us treat Sarah with the respect she
deserves and sit back to enjoy a wonderful evening of watching a true artist
at work. So many artists today are doing the 'self-exploration' type of music,
it is tough to find someone who can express their experiences and actually
share their pain, their joy, their sorrow with you and at the same time, allow
you to share yours as well. Sarah McLachlan is a wonderful person, a wonderful
artist, and I wish her well further in the future in whatever she has set her
mind to do.

Those of you who might be looking to purchase tickets to see Sarah Mac. at
Meadowbrook this July, I'm sorry to say that almost all Pavillion seats
are sold, leaving only back pavillion (uncovered) and lawn seating
availablity. (Damn scalpers...) If you're able to find better seating,
hooray. If not, see you on the Lawn.

Tell us, morgayn.. tell us, the woeful souls who missed last night's show,
whad'ya think?

Or, anyone who saw the show... (just don't gloat TOO much).

Sorry, guys, haven't been here in a bit...
My first comment on March 16....BUY PAULA COLE'S album...Holy cow, that
woman gave so much of herself...She looked as if she were physically injuring
herself on a few of the songs. She was great. She picked up a clarinet and
played this tune she had written. Whoah...
As for Miss McLachlan?! Holy cow...I have NEVER seen such a show. She was
wonderful. She talked to the audience. She was happy, she gave a wonderful
show. I don't know how to explain it. All I will say is that if you haven't
seen Ms. McLachlan in concert, and you're thinking, "I bought her albums,
that's enough..." YOU'RE WRONG! GO SEE HER! I've never seen anyone give so
much. I thought Ms. Cole had given a lot of herself....And then Ms. McLachlan
shows up on stage.... As a performer, I respect Ms. McLachlan and Ms.Cole
immensely. I hope one day I am able to captivate audiences and give that much
of myself on stage....

by the emotions she was able to dredge up from deep within me...
