How can you say that Pearl Jam is corporate rock? They haven't relesed a vidoe
since there first album. They are never on MTV...they just make music and put
it out. They can help that they signed with a hype machine like SONY..but they
don't let it get to them...Like I said, they are the greatest most pure music
that there is today. BUt I will check item 137, and get back to you. -Ben-

Well thanks for being open minded and checking out the item. It's
not that I think P-Jam sucks, I just think there is a lot of music out
there that is more interesting, and the muscians are starving which
does suck.

Just because Pearl Jam aren't starving doesn't mean that the music doesn't
sound like it. It has always had that edge to it. YOu should definately check
out some P-Jam LIve or old bootlegs (before they *Made it*), and you will see
that t the hunger/anger is still there...Have you heard all of Vitalogy yet? If
not definatley check it out. It just pisses me off when people think a band is
comrporate, or has sold out just because they has a record deal. -Ben-

No a record deal is fine it just bothers me that groups like Material,
and The Throwing Muses who play very sophisticated music don't get a
100th the hype of say Pearl Jam, Green Day, Weezer, any band who gets
there 15 minutes on MTV. P-Jam did get there 15 minutes on MTV when
thet played the video music award with Neil Young who showed them
where "grunge" came from IMO.
there=their :-)

I think that people should be happy that great musican like P-Jam and the great
Neil YOung are allowed to play on mainstreme events like that , It introduces
the masses to music that is reawl, they should be called sell outs for it...The
m media realized that P-Jam was a great vehicle to ride on, it isn't P-Jam's
fault..Exposer should be a crime..P-Jam, greenday, and weezer are all great
bands, you must look at them before and after there success, you will see no
change in the music, that is the sing of not seeling out..going commercial by
the way, I love this kind of conv. I will make a believer out of you yet over
christmas che3ck out some P_jam (old P-kjam, not studio recordings, I'm sure
you will be impressed..then we can talk more.....See you all next year (Jan
15). Merry Christmas Happy Newyear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I just don't dig three chord music, before or after success.
Check Material, Throwing Muses, or Bongwater for some complex
music that still rocks. I do agree Neil Young is great.

Actually, cornhlio, according to a newsgroup that I read, Eddie Vedder said
in a later interview that the grandmother thing was just a joke. He said
that, at one time his band was going to call itself 'Mookie Blaylock' after
its favorite basketball player, but their label thought that the name was
not marketable enough and refused to use it. So instead, the band decided
to name itself after Mookie's favorite drink--the pearl jam. Incidentally,
the name of their first album, 'ten', was Mookie's number.

This from someone who doesn't know how to use a text editor...:-)
I most certainly do know quite a bit about music from going to Oberlin
College that has one of the biggest conservatories in the country.
Plus I spend way too much money on tapes, perhaps it's you
who should get out of the p-jam ghetto and open up your ears to
the WORLD of music.

Pearl Jam is an excellent band, I will admit that, but they are not the only
good band, Ben. If you like PJ, you'll love Live's 2nd album entitled
Throwing Copper. Both bands are very raw and energetic. And if you really
get a wild hair up your butt then try listening to Tori Amos's Little
Earthquakes...she has a voice that will mesmorize you...very sensual lady.
Anyway...enjoy the multitude of good bands.

Pearl Jam rules!! The only problem is that the music on an individual CD tends
to become stagnant after a while. Then again, all you have to do is swithch to
a different CD. No one can call them sell-outs, even though they go out of
their way to appear that way. They want to be able to play their music without
any restrictions, including widespread acceptance. There are other bands out
there though. Live is also awesome, and each CD is such a menagerie of musical
styles that they do not become stagnant like PJ. A little defense for cornhlio:
PJ is not the only band he listens to. Although most of his messages appear to
contradict this, he has a larger range of musical tastes than you do, Raven.
