80's musical trivia
|
May 19 20:51 UTC 1994 |
Remember all those great tunes from the 80's? Ever wonder if anyone else
did? Here's a chance to test your musical history knowledge as it relates
to the musical period from Jan. 1980 through Dec. 1989. I haven't any idea
how to make up rules or such, but I'll try to set a good example with my
first entry.

This song broke the lower echelons of the Top 40 sometime in the mid-late
80's. It's a cover of a Cat Stevens tune by a currently popular reggae
artist, who eventually topped the charts in the 90's. The song in question
is also a current single by the band Mr. Big. Name the song and artist of
this 80's tune.

No answer yet, but a rules suggestion... How about whomever answers the
question right either gets to ask the next one, or opt back to you, carson
if they can't think up a question at the time...
I think that it was Wild World but I can't remember who it was by...
Jimmy Cliff maybe??

The song is right, but the artist is wrong. Here's another hint:
The artist in question has since gone on to record duets with such artists
as Shabba Ranks and Roberta Flack.

it's not Mr. Hathaway. The artist is a "mainstream" reggae artist. He's
not very reggae sounding, though, as he sticks to a more "soulful" sound.
He's had an album titled "Fe^[[De^H-^He Real".
(a little side trivia: I played "Name That Tune" while at Northwestern,
and I named this tune without it being played. I won a Lisa Lisa and
Cult Jam tape. :) )

Nope. I think Bobby McFerrin falls into more of a "post-modern" category,
not really reggae all that much.
I can't think of any more clues to the artist, so I'll run across the
street to Tower Records and MAKE SOME. :) Keep guessin'!

I guess that I will as the one with the last correct answer...
Here's an easy one, This two person (big haired) keyboard synth group
scored big on the charts in 1984 with their one hit "Vowell movement"
What song was it??

(let's see... one hit removes Tears For Fears... Times Two wasn't until
later... one hit also removes Hall & Oates... and Wham!... it's the "vowel
movement" thing that's confusing me... AIGH!!)
(I can't think of anything to guess! I'll have to ask my roommate.)

The title of the song is what the "vowel movement" is referring to...
SOMETIMES the lead singer of this group had big black and white skunk stripe
hair. A very danceable song...

Ok...I'm taking the initiative and answering this one myself...the "vowel
movement" in questin refers to the song "A E I O U & sometimes Y" by the
stripey haired duo EBEN OZEN!
I will post my question of choice later. :)
