How often do you get your hair cut, trimmed or "done"? Who does it for
you? How often do you change your hair style?

Now- not so much. But I'm looking to see how long it can grow (currently
it's almost mid-back). I had a haircut on New Year's Eve- but before
that it had been a little over a year since my hair was cut. However I
waited as long as I did because I have heard many horror stories about
stylists (even have had a few bad experiences myself) and since I moved
have never found anyone I trusted enough to cut my hair.
When I was living in Ann Arbor I used to go to Heidi's in Briarwood-
always got a great cut there. I used to go for a major style change
every year or so- or whenever I had a relationship end. ;)

Whenever I'm at home and my dad insists on it -- or when I'm at home and I
notice that it's getting in my way. I get it cut either at the local barber
shop or at home by my mom. Since I don't have a particular hair style and I
only have my hair cut when it's necessary, you could say either that I never
change the style, or that I change it every time.

Jim cuts my hair when it gets in my eyes, more often in the summer. He cuts
it shorter in the summer than the winter. He also cuts his own hair with
electric clippers, but uses scissors on mine.

My hubby keeps his hair quite short- and has electric clippers that he
uses every two weeks or so.

I'd find it difficult to cut my own hair. I didn't know anyone did
that. Wow.
My wife has electric clippers and has cut my hair sometimes, but really
prefers I go to the barber. I go to the barber when my hair encroaches
on my ears. I hate that.

resp:6 well, my hubby's hair is less than a centimeter long (or very
close to it), and it's all cut to be the same length, so cutting it
himself isn't all that hard. Just runs the clippers over his head a
couple few times and there it is.

There's a local barber's school I used to go to for haircuts, they charge
like $5 and the students get experience cutting hair. However it tends to
unnerve you when one of the students is working on the back of your head
and goes "acck!" and calls over the teacher, "help! professor I think I
did something wrong!" Not that there were any major accidents, but a
couple of instances of nervous students was enough to convince me to stick
to using experienced barbers.

I use Fantastic Sam's and have usually been satisfied. When I wear short as
I am at the moment, it gets trimmed every 4-8 weeks or when it starts to get
in my eyes. When I wear long, it gets trimmed every 8-12 weeks or when the
split ends begin to get bothersome. The problem I sometimes have is that the
stylist doesn't believe me when I say that I want a trim, but that I want
about an inch to an inch and a half off. To them a trim is less than half
an inch. If they only do that much, I have to go in every 2-3 weeks to keep
it out of my eyes. I have finally have convinced one of the stylists that
I mean it, she has done my cut the last 3-4 times I have been in. If she is
their when I go in, she makes sure that she is the one to do my cut.

I used to go to a hair-cutting school in Ypsi somewhere (on Washtenaw) for
$2 until one of the students decided to cut my hair punk.

I go to Great Clips every couple weeks and keep the sides at a 1 1/2 and the
top at finger thickness. 1 1/2 is pretty much a buzz and that removes most
of the gray.

About every 4-5 weeks I go and tell the barber to give me a buzz with his
longest clipper guard on the trimmer. Then I have him trim my beard and
mustache to about the same length.

When I was in grad school I went for three years without a haircut.
Now I try to do it every month or so, but I screw up frequently and go
longer. I trim my facial hair myself, it's easy enough to handle.

i cut off my mohawk in late 86 or early 87 and haven't
even had a trim since.

I've had alot of trim since 87. I could probably do an American Express
commercial on the subject.

I have a haircut once or twice a year. I get it cut rather short, and
grow more than a little shaggy between haircuts. I've been known to
hack off excess hair myself with a pair of scissors if it's getting in
my eyes and I don't feel like visiting a barber.
When I do get hair cuts it's a major operation. I typically tip about
50%. I don't really object to hair cuts, they just take time and I
don't care very much about my hair. The conservative post-haircut look
and the shaggy pre-haircut look both capture significant aspects of my
true self.

I'm getting a bald spot on top so I'm thinking of going back to full buzz.
I don't want to look like a friar.

true story, one time I went in to my barber and it was the middle of the
summer and I just said to give me a buzz cutt because it was so hot. My
barber flat out refused. He said I had such nice thick hair that he could
not be a party to shaving it all off. He got very upset about it, even
offering to cut my hair for free that visit if I agreed to not try to get a
buzz cut at another barber. He's this italian guy, "no buzz cut! I no buzz
cut you, noo!" I gave in, thats the only time I ever tried to get one.

Perhaps you didn't notice that the code of ethics for barbers states that you
usually do a buzz for $3 or free...nowhere near a regular haircut price.

I get my hair cut at Your Barber Shop. Truly, that is the actual name of
the joint. "Your Barber Shop". I've had the same barber for 12 years.
He's this older (50s) italian guy who has the thickest accent you've
ever heard. It literally took me 3 years before I could converse with him.
Anyway, I used to get buzz cuts. But now I just say "make it short Pete"
and I let him decide the best way to make it happen. I am 24 years old,
and have been losing my hair since I was 19. But by some miracle, he is
able to hide it well. He charges $12 for the cut, which I add a $5 on
top of ($10 right before Christmas). I did tell him that if his price
ever went over $15, he's just getting the change out of a twenty.

Rudy's is the only place I've seen that advertises different prices for
different cuts, I think they claim $10 for a buzz and $17 for a complicated
cut. I go to Great Clips mostly because they're close to my house, and I'm
a lazy man.
