Welcome to Winter! Mark Unseen   Dec 23 00:53 UTC 2005

WHEN

When the snow
fell yesterday

in big wet flakes
slowly whitening

the old grass
and filling the air

with pieces of sky
suddenly

I was eight years old
not seventy-five

and Christmas
was almost here

and meanwhile
there were sleds

and hot chocolate
and no school.

Greetings from Libertyville, IL!

Things are going great with the new job and moving and such - plus I have
relatives in the area so holidays aren't going to be lonely, depressing
affairs at all. Haven't really gotten back onto Grex in a few weeks, though.

Blow, blow, thou winter wind,
Thou art not so unkind
As man's ingratitude;
Thy tooth is not so keen,
Because thou art not seen,
Although thy breath be rude.
Heigh-ho! sing heigh-ho! unto the green holly:
Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly:
Then, heigh-ho, the holly!
This life is most jolly.

II.
Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,
That dost not bite so nigh
As benefits forgot:
Though thou the waters warp,
Thy sting is not so sharp
As friend remember'd not.
Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! &c.

Nice to hear from you, Scott. I'd enjoy hearing more about
your new home and job, when you get the time.

Hello. i'm rick. I live in North Carolina. I work at Duke as a Sr. IT
Analyst. I don't know what that means. I'm mostly a web programmer. I met
my wife through friends on m-net. She and I had known the same friends for
10 years (brad switzer, julie hibbard) before we met. She even attended
picofests sometimes. I saw a map of a 1988 picofest at which she apparently
sat near Mike pelletier.

I have a daughter who is almost 4 and very cute. Plus a dog (sheltie) and
a cat (birman).

If you like cats like persians due to their temperaments but don't like long
hair, shedding, brushing, etc - get a birman. Every bit as friendly, but
birman's have no undercoat. He needs NO brushing whatsoever.

I m-net for BBS and grex for party. Mostly.

I miss playing frisbee with morel at the diag.

I miss the picofests, happy hours, etc, and though I remember/know morel, I
never got to play frisbee, though. But I did get to play volleyball with a
number of grex and m-netters!

Re #19: Hi, Denise. Nice to see you back. As I recall, the Friday
M-Net happy hours were your idea originally. The first one in 1986 was
attended by all of two people, but then the idea snowballed and within a
year or so it was not at all unusual for 40 or so M-Netters to gather at
Dominick's on Friday afternoon.

By the way, I'm John and have been involved in Ann Arbor conferencing -
first on M-Net, now Grex - since 1984, which is probably longer than
anybody else here except maybe janc and lk. I'm a retired computer
science prof. who plays ragtime piano. For more info, visit

John, I showed up September 1984 on m-net and you had already been
around at least for a few months by then, I think...though perhaps
not as "remmers" :-)

Hi Remmers, you're retired now? EMU will miss you! And I recall our first
HH with the 2 of us compromising the intitial event. We all turned into a
pretty rowdy bunch at times, didn't we? Is Domonick's still around/survive
us all? Whenever I make it back to MI, we'll have to try another HH some day.
And what about the walks at Gallup Park on Saturday mornings and trips to
Zingerman's??
