I sang at Dave Alway's house last Saturday, not much of a stage, but

I will be appearing in the opera "Hansel & Gretel," by
Engelbert Humperdinck this weekend up at Michigan State
University. My performances are Friday night at 8 PM,
and Sunday afternoon at 3 PM. I play the Witch. I
just *love* to eat little children! Yum.
Performances will be at Fairchild Theater, on the MSU
campus. Tickets are available from the Wharton Box
Office at 517-432-2000. I suspect tickets will be
available at the door as well. This is going to be
a wonderful show, and even non-opera lovers will
likely enjoy it.
Tickets are $16, $8 for students.

Final notice: my last performance as the Witch in Hansel & Gretel
will be later today (Sunday) at 3 PM up at MSU. The show has been
going very well, and audiences have been loving it.

I'm surprised they didn't get swallowed up by all the non-rioting

Katie Geddes and The Usual Suspects tonight at 8 pm at Green Wood. Only $8!
We may not always be that cheap! Proceeds to benefit The Appalachian
Service Project, so we'll be doing a fair amount of Appalachian-type stuff,
and it's a very good cause: folks are travelling to the very poorest areas
to renovate homes in very bad repair.

I was "on stage" a bit at last weekend's Tom Turpin Ragtime
Festival in Savannah, GA. Played a few tunes at after-hours,
including some duo-piano stuff with Nan Bostick and John
Yates.

I got mine. There weren't very many left for Friday and Saturday, and that
was a week ago. Thursday was a bit easier.

The UMGASS production of THE MIKADO, with Leslie as Katisha, seems to be
a hit. Saturday night's show is reported to be sold out.
Other remaining shows are Friday night, Saturday matinee and Sunday
matinee.

This Thursday I'll be performing with other student cellists in the lobby
of University Hospital. It's part of the university's Gift of Art
project. Do you think it would be rude if I didn't change out of
my scrubs? ;-)

Couldn't you remain in scrubs to attend to those in the audience who swoon
from the celestial sounds of an all-cello ensemble? How many voices did the
arrangers create?

Actually, yesterday was a day off, I was in a dress, and all the
cellists performed different pieces. It went well.
I'm trying to talk John into doing a solo ragtime performance
for Gifts of Art.

I attended the cello performance at U Hospital. Mary did a duet
with her teacher that went quite well. The other cellists -- who
ranged in age from little kid to adult -- were pretty good too.
After the cello performances, I did a brief audition for the
lady in charge of the Gift of Art program. If the scheduling
works out, I may be performing sometime this fall.
My ballet ragtime performance is next Saturday, May 13.
The student recital starts at 7:30pm and takes place at Mercy
High School, located at 11 Mile and Middlebelt Roads, in the
northwest Detroit burbs. It's open to the public, $7 for adults
and $3.50 for children, tickets at the door. I'll be playing
George Botsford's "Black and White Rag", as choreographed by the
ballet teacher, Karen Milligan. Be forewarned that my spot is
only about 5 minutes' worth of a 90-minute recital. But after
last night's rehearsal I know it'll be a *good* 5 minutes,
especially the part where the dozen ballerinas all run around
the piano... :)

I'll be in the Grand Rapids Symphonette performance Friday at 7:30pm in Royce
auditorium of St. Cecelia Music Society Building, Downtown Grand Rapids. For
the purposes of grex sighters, i'm the fat, ugly trombone player who NEVER
plays during a rest.
For those unaquainted with the Grand Rapids Symphonette, this is a volunteer,
service organization dedicated to bringing music to whose who cannot
attend live music performances. Thus our venues are mostly nursing homes,
retirement centers and other places where the audience has already had
significant hearing loss. Those who would walk out probably can't without
help.
The Friday night performance marks the end of a rehearsal/performance tour
of the metropolitan Grand Rapids area. In order to keep the audience, a
reception is held in the ballroom above with punch and cookies!
