This is nothing new in Seattle. I used to work in the Wells Fargo
building on Madison between 2nd & 3rd. The Fed Bldg is on the
corner of 2nd & Madison. From my 12th floor office, I could see the
protesters coming down Madison (it's downhill toward teh waterfront.)
This was literally almost every day. A parade of different sorts
daily. Always a protest. It's like if Ann Arbor had fish and
an actual rail system and wasn't full of white people but had
Asians and Native Americans mixed with 2nd generation beachcombers.
These are the same kids at the WTO in 2000. Same places, same
childish party, same media coverage. It meakes for great theater
and stories to tell at the pub and coffee shop for the next decade.
I don't see it as a symbol of anything but the typical over privileged
white kids play summer sleep over. Seattle is a piece of crap down
town full of homeless heroin addicts and upper middle class white
kids wearing plaid pretending to be oppressed.
That's it in a nut shell. The media is eating it up.
To me, it's just another day in Seattle.
Something few locals in Seattle even know, there's a former Congressman
who was the sheriff during WTO. His name is Dave Reichert. He
staged a bunch of news crew footage of him chasing protesters.
One scene, he catches a kid who is supposedly assaulting someone with
a skateboard. All fake. Reichert wrote a book "Chasing the Devil" about
going after Gary Ridgeway aka the Green River Killer - the only problem
is that Dave didn't actually do all the shit he says he did in the book.
I worked with the forensic lady in the County Coroner's office Kathy Green
who actually did most of the work. County Sheriff's are 'elected.'
They're all about getting to sheriff on their way to something
like Governor or POTUS. They'll go to Congress or Attorney General on the
way. They'll let this media thing play out that there's a villain
taking over the county - in come the good guys in white hats - with
a news crew in tow.
