Minutes of the 9/26/10 Board Meeting Mark Unseen   Sep 28 20:29 UTC 2010

Minutes of the 9/26/10 Board Meeting

Present: Kentn, unicorn, tsty, gelinas, denise, remmers, mary, aruba

Called to order @ 6:53

Treasurer s Report:
-See aruba s 2 year summary of income/expenses, etc in item #283
-Checking account balance: $734.60; savings: about $1900. Because of the
savings account only getting 0.1% interest, tsty moved and gelinas
seconded the motion to close the savings account and transfer that money
to checking. Motion carried. -Membership database is being worked on so
that tsty can access it. 7 of 8 of us present are paid members. Can we
set up an automated way of notifying expiring members that they re due
for renewal? Will need to have a login id, working email address, and
expiration date stored somewhere. tsty will start keeping track by
hand; will investigate other options if/as needed. Should we eliminate
showing id for membership? -Need a bylaw change to reduce membership
fees; gelinas has drafted a statement and has entered an item in coop
to discuss this before a possible vote. If dues change, do we want to
keep it there for a given time period? monthly, quarterly, year? Give
the board an option to make changes if needed? -Need bylaw changes to
1) reduce the size of the board and 2) reduce the number needed for a
quorum. Mary has entered items in coop to discuss these issues before a
possible vote. -Is there a command to run validation for newuser? Should
include a workable email address.

Staff Report:
-Some of the menu shell is not working; needs a path change? Web newuser
has a bug in it; remmers will look into this. -The system has now had
129 days of uptime. The system still won t boot directly from the hard
drive; needs the cd drive first before booting. Can STeve or tonster
look at this?

Business:
-AACS Spam Filtering Presentation Notes: tsty went to a presentation of
the Ann Arbor Computer Society. They have hardware and software
solutions available including providing spam filtering; tsty will
provide us with a link/information. In any plan we use. we want an
option to view the spam sent to us.

-Town Hall Cf Item & Planning, continued: More info on handouts [summary
of previous town hall items]; a lot of this is hardware related. If
something happened that would close Provide.net could we get our
hardware? If we get new equipment, could we get backups from elsewhere?
Yes-->remmer s Free BSD could reconstruct through these backups.
-Another handout includes potential plans for Grex: Status Quo thru
new/incremental changes [to be discussed]. Are we selling a service? A
system? Are we getting our money s worth?

Next meeting: Sunday, Oct 17th, 6:30 pm in the Kid s Room at Zing s
[next door, upstairs].
