Should Grex have an ircdaemon?

I would like to really create my own server for irc, however, I can't find
an account (UNIX) that supports ircx. I would really wish that Grex would
help me out and, as I'm almost positive, help others out too, to support ircd
to be run on this server. Please consder this. Thankyou.

The problem with that is twofold: 1) we don't have the CPU to do
this, and 2) we don't have the network bandwidth to do this.

Grex runs on an ancient Sun-4/260 system thats been acting a
little weird with 128M of memory, so we dropped it down to 32M
to achieve a reasonable level of stability. The downside to
doing this is that its sllloooooowwwwwwww when the system starts
swaping. With 50 users on its pretty bad.

The net link speed (28K) means that while we can shovel things
in and out of Grex, its again "sloow". Very slow. If we were to
have an IRC server on is with 50 or a 100 or more users suckling
off it, our poor little abused link modem would just about melt
down.

The bottom line is that people have lots of interesting uses
for Grex, but we just don't have the money to do everything.

Maj, have you tried nether.net? They run irc there, and you can create a free
account for yourself just like on grex.

But you can't run an ircd or bots there.
