Minutes of the 3/26/1997 Board of Directors Meeting
|
Mar 30 22:36 UTC 1997 |
7:50 Gavel Banging.
Item FOR: The Treasurer's Report
February was a bad month for GREX financially, even excepting the costs
incurred for the new computer. We lost $250.
On the bright side, the phone bill was down to normal (about $426) and the
number of local outgoing calls was down to a reasonalble number.
We had two renewing members and no new members in March. As of this date we
had 106 members, 95 of whom are paid to date (11 of the members had expired
on the 15th and are still in their grace period.)
A membership question was raised: Can a member donate for a second login ID
and get the telnet priveleges accruing with membership for that login also,
though not the second vote? The board decided that this question was to be
brought to the membership in Coop.
Item THE: The Computer Rehab Committee
No movement to report. There seems to be little use for the sorts of
computers we have except as GREX terminals.
Item 3/26/97: The Publicity Report
The latest news on the benefit for GREX is that the event has been extended
to two nights because there were so many artists interested in becoming
involved. More information is available in item 93 of Oldagora and will
hopefully be linked to new agora very soon.
Item GREX: The Technical Committee
A phone line has died, Steve called Ameritech about it.
The 670 is up and running on the net. The things still needed:
* a disk for the new OS
* patches
* testing
* a chunk of staffer time.
Micropolis has called regarding a disk that GREX has in for repair, and so
that disk might be available as the disk for the new OS.
Staff has had a new volunteer (login nt) writing a conf. list developer.
Progress has been excellent and this function may soon be available for
GREXers wanting an easy way to develop their conf. lists. Thanks, nt!
hotmail.com isn't currently speaking to GREX. Marcus has adopted this issue
and is working on helping hotmail.com fix the problem.
Scott has picked up one of the GVCs and taken it home to work on getting it
running.
Steve G. is putting another ethernet card (on GREX?)
GREX now owns 120 legal copies of IBM DOS 5.0.
Ameritech has *finally* disabled outgoing calls on GREXes modem lines.
Item BOARD: The ISDN LINE DISCUSSION
ISDN is currently on the back burner at ITI. Jared can't tell us exactly why,
except to say that it isn't our (collective) breathe. He says to look for
movement on the issue around June.
Item OF: REGISTERING THE GREX.ORG DOMAIN
The Board decided that since we had sufficient donations to cover the first
two years cost, we would go ahead and keep the grex.org domain name.
MOTION: I move that Cyberspace Communications pay to register
grex.org as GREXes additional domain name.
Valerie Mates made the motion. Mark Conger seconded. Motion passed 6-0-0.
Item DIRECTORS: THE GREX STORE
We've arranged through Rob Argy for the production of mousepads and mugs
(and maybe t-shirts?) with the cool new GREX logo. We're researching the
sales tax question, and must still set fair prices and determine a sales flow.
MOTION: I move that Cyberspace Communications authorize the
opening of the GREX Store on the GREX web page and
begin the search for a store manager."
Misti Tucker made the motion. Mark Conger seconded. Motion passed 6-0-0.
Item MEETING: FILLING THE EMPTY BOARD SEAT
MOTION: I move that Cyberspace Communications accept nominations
through the end of the day on April 5, 1997 and that
we open the polls on April 7 through the end of the day
April 21st to fill the seat on the board vacated by
Rob Henderson.
Valerie Mates made the motion. Mark Conger seconded. Motion passed 6-0-0.
Item : NEW BUSINESS
Mark Conger may be around a month longer than he originally thought. Jan C.
has agreed to take over treasurer duties for the period that Mark is away.
9:15 Gavel
In attendance: Valerie Mates, Jan Wolter, Scott Helmke; Jared Mauch, Steve
Gibbard, Steve Andre, Mark Conger, Misti Tucker.

A couple of corrections to the Treasurer's report: We had two new members
in February, and quite a few renewals. We had no new members in March at
the time of the meeting (though Jared became a member *during* the
meeting). At the time of the meeting we did have 11 members not paid up
yet, but only 7 of them expired on March 15th; the rest expired slightly
earlier.

Re #6: We did pretty well, David - I just went to the bank today (Monday)
and deposited $923 which we took in in March. ($80 was earmarked for grex.org,
and the rest will go into the general fund.)
