That would be a great thing to do.

That's a good idea. If someone could send me an address, I'll take care of
paying for/ordering the flowers.

it certainly is the right thing to do almost automatically, imo.

having the wife and daughter drop around for reassurance was also
a thoughtful touch as well.

is there any thought (here or there) about a change in the
legal status of the ownership of the building. i recall that there
was some initial trepidation about the ownership status. it did't
bother me at all, but others were concerned.

Let's see what the estate does with the building. It could go "as is"
to heirs/legatees, or (conceivably) the estate could sell it to anyone
it wanted (with Probate Court approval).

Am I correct in thinking that the heirs control what the estate does with
property, as long as there aren't lots of outstanding debts?

With a substantial amount of property (like a building) in the estate,
court approval is necessary for anything to happen. Normally, the
court will go along with whatever the principal heirs/legatees
want. But we would really have to see the will (if any) to determine
what the options are.
Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best. We will get
plenty of notice if there are any changes.

We received a nice card from Marcie VanFossen, thanking us for the flowers.

As long as the nice card didn't include a notice to quit. 8-)

Has an executor for the estate been named/appointed/approved? That would be
the person who needs to be dealt with from a business/legal point of view.
If not, DPC is correct about the probate.

Yes, Bill arranged for them to take over once he died. Although I
don't think anyone expected that to happen so soon. From what I've
heard it is their intention to keep things the way they are.
