Text for music cf promo flyers
|
Nov 25 23:54 UTC 1996 |
Here's a crude draft of the flyer I want to distribute in
some CD shops. I need some help with the details.
-----
Ann Arbor's
Online Music Discussion
rock / folk / jazz / world / classical
(Some hype about how our music conferences will make you
more intelligent and stop your hair from falling out)
Grex (perhaps Rob's new logo?)
To join: http://www.cyberspace.org
telnet grex.cyberspace.org
761-3000 (modem settings)
761-5041 (modem settings)
and then:
bbs music
bbs classicalmusic
-----
So, how would folks here express the basic contact information for
Grex, in a few lines?

Looks great. I'd send email to Misti (mta) who, as publicity committee chair,
has lots of boilerplate info to share.

I still need the modem setting info, and I would like to get a copy of
the logo suitable for inserting into a MS Word document.

Modem settings for 761-3000:
2400 bps, E71 (Even parity, 7 data bits, 1 stop bit), no error correction
Modem settings for 761-5041:
9600 bps, E71 (Even parity, 7 data bits, 1 stop bit)
For a logo, see /u/ajax/dir-gifs. I forget which is which, but there's
grxlogo1.gif (4K), grxlogo2.gif (5K), and grxlogo3.gif (7K), one of which
I think is a black-on-white version (probably grxlogo1.gif, but I'm not
sure).
Your instructions for "bbs music" or "bbs classicalmusic" won't work
that well for people who choose to log in to a menu program. They'd
need to type a "!bbs ...", or choose bbs (or whatever it's called there)
off a menu, then join the conference. You could also give a Backtalk
URL to get to the conferences. But whatever. It's hard to explain how
to do things on Grex in simple ways, since commands vary depending on
where you are.

forgets the item*

Something to do with representing the system to some demographic group or
another.
Coop rules do *not* say the item has to be something people want to argue
about.

Re 6 - Well, I say they do! You're wrong, scott! Let's change
the by-laws to say that all Co-op items must have at least three
contradictory pairs of responses within two months of being
entered, no make it a month and a half, and...
<a 16 ton weight lands on robh>

For what it's worth, here'e my current boilerplate:
Whatever your (musical) interests, GREX provides an opportunity to share your
interests, views and new discoveries with people from around the world.
Internet e-mail, real-time chats, and computer conferencing -- all available
to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Free.

There was more, but I got booted off the system and couldn't get another line.
This continues number 9.
Membership donations (only $6 a month or $60 a year) support this valuable
community resource, but membership is optional. Starving (musicians) and
students are welcome, too.
Our user base is large ( over 1200 people log in every day) and diverse (our
users range in age from 9 years to 75 years and come from every corner of the
world). Your sure to meet someone interesting!
Set your communication parameters to 7E1 and your modem speed to 2400 or 9600
bps, and dial 761-3000 or 761-5041. Or telnet to cyberspace.org. Or visit
our web page (URL for the backtalk page inserted here.)
Great idea, Ken!! Thanks!

So, basically, we give out the phone number/telnet address/URL and
beyond that, we hope they can wing it.

Either that, or I have a who;e page of "what to do next" that I print on the
back of the fliers. Shall I mail you a copy?

Another option would be to say something like "go to the bulletin board
conferences and type 'join music' to find the music conference". There are
a lot of different shells people use on Grex, but *all* of them make it
very clear how to get into Picospan.

No, I'm swamped and this probably won't get done before January.
But the people I'm after will be in the CD shops in January, too.
