A few zero-sum adjustments were made, for example when a modem was
purchased and returned, or a loan was made and repaid, I left it out
of income and expenses, and when checks were deposited in the wrong
month (and noted in reports), i moved them to the proper month.

Since June is the first month in which dues were collected, it is
typically a higher-than-average month for dues collection. This is
still noticable, and was noted in most June financial reports.

The reason I compiled these figures was to see if hardware upgrades
seemed to increase membership sales. The Sun 4 upgrade was in mid-
March '96. That month did fairly well for membership dues, but was
followed by very low memberships in April and May. By average
membership dues collections, the Sun 4 upgrade seems to have had no
significant impact. For the 8 months since the upgrade (3/96-10/96),
average dues collected were $487 per month. For the 13 months prior to
the upgrade (2/95-2/96), average dues collected were $520 per month.

Overall, I think the finances are too irregular to determine the
effect that hardware upgrades have on membership dues. It's also hard
to determine when other upgrades went into effect; the month we got new
phone lines or equipment is not necessarily the same month (or year)
they were put into service.

One trend that I did notice is that record months for membership dues
tend to occur when there's a lot of other income. When JCC sales, fund
drives, T-shirt sales, or auctions produced a lot of money, membership
dues also seem to be considerably higher. Just browse down the column
of member dues; if a number is quite a bit higher than nearby months,
look one column to the right, and in almost every case, the misc. income
was high for that month as well. Possible reasons: JCC sales introduce
new members to Grex, or our presence encourages users to become members
(the last sale we didn't have many fliers, and we didn't get as big a
boost, and the 3/93 sale didn't produce this effect either). With fund
drives, people who aren't members might become members rather than donate
to the particular drive. For auctions or T-shirt sales, people might
send in member dues just because they happen to be writing a check to
Grex. Or maybe the "misc. income"-"member dues" relationship is just
a random fluke. :-) Interesting though!

If it's useful for finding some of the missing treasurer's reports: I've
uploaded Agora 10.

The agora10 conference did add three more months of data, including the
highest recorded month of memberships ever, in June of 1994. As with the
earlier noted pattern, there were other non-member things drawing money
that month, too: the JCC sale, and a disk drive fund-raiser.
