Is coop.cf large enough to restart in the near future? Mark Unseen   Sep 15 11:48 UTC 1996

Noticing that this edition of coop.cf has generated in excess of 100 items,
this being 112, it might be prudent to restart coop in the near future.

I agree. I think it is important for it to be easy for new people to join
coop and get involved with the current discussions. If there are hundreds
of long items full of ancient discussions, that is an obstacle against
new people joining. We don't want obstacles against joining coop.

I'd be half inclined to create a conference called coop-archive and
continuously move any item that hasn't had a response for two weeks there.
That way coop could be kept pretty small all the time.

#1, an excellent idea. Re-start would be cool too. I'd link all
the backtalk items, but not the grex needs to move item (it has close
to four hundred responses, so probably need a new item started freshly
re-hashing the current situation. my observation is that if an item
has more than a couple hundred responses, new people are less inclined
to join it because it would take too much time to catch up)

Sounds reasonable, Ker.
Actually, as to the restart, I was wondering wwhen we might be doing that...

restarting both agora and coop at about the same time is, imo, not
tooo swift of an idea.

the coop restart will come after agora restarts.

part will stay, part will change - there were two structural and
philosophical generalities entered earlier from which the login screen
grew and was refined.

a couple ppl took me seriously and their contributions will be (and
in two cases, "have been") incorporated in the login screen.

other contributions are welcomeed.

I think a restart is a good idea. I think we need it soon. I don't think
login screens are important enough to hold up doing a restart for.

?????? oh, really? there are too-numerous items right here in the
current coop.cf to suggest anything *other* than #8.

New login screen is ok, but should mention/make clear the restart. Is good.

based on previous experience, it would seem temperate to have a new
login screen before a restart. the reverse proved inflammatory.

want a sample here to work from first?

That seems like a Real Good Idea to me.
It should be short, in my opinion.

Yes, Tsty, can we see what you have in mind?

Can the "still active" items be linked in the restared coop to here/archive?

Yes, which is exactly what happened last restart.
tsty
response 21 of 47: Mark Unseen   Oct 18 09:06 UTC 1996

yup, all email requests for links are honored asap.

ok, since nephi and put up the first target last time, i, intelligently
defer to a different innocent victim to post a potential login screen.

there are two important considerations posted earlier, i'll go dig through
the older items and post them. they are substantial principles which, imo,
should be evident in the new login screen.

dont; let that stop any suggested postings though. i would expect
soem degree of modifications in any event.

Why not allow the login screen to simply be a login screen. No lecture.
No State of Grex address. Just a line saying what conference you've
joined, who the fairwitness is, and how to access the old conference.

Any words of wisdom could be entered as item one. You could even make it
a "What is Grex?" item and have others contribute their "principles".

Just a thought. ;-)

I would like to see the conference restarted. I hate the idea of letting the
login screen be a hangup for this. The restart is much more important than
the login screen.

I second Mary's thought.
