Nominations for Special Election to Grex Board of Directors Mark Unseen   Jan 24 17:05 UTC 2007

Nominations are now open for the Cyberspace Communications, Inc. Board
of Directors. Nominations will close at Midnight February 5 and an
online election will be held from Midnight February 7, 2007 through
Midnight February 21, 2007. Terms of office begin on January 1, 2007,
and are two years in length. This is a special election, authorized by
the Board of Directors to fill the seat vacated by John Remmers.

Grex membership is a requirement for serving on the Board. Any current
member of Grex who has paid at least 3 months' membership dues and
meets state of Michigan eligibility requirements may run for and serve
on the Board unless they are currently serving and are completing the
second of two consecutive terms. People in the latter group are
eligible to run again in next year's election if they are still members
at that time.

To appear on the ballot, a person must be nominated in this item by
Midnight February 5 and affirmatively accept the nomination in this
item before the start of voting on February 7. Seconds are not
required. Self-nominations are permitted.

See http://cyberspace.org/local/grex/bod.html for a history of Board
service since 1996.

Remmers!***)

Jep, it would be easy to become a member.

response 10 of 57: Mark Unseen   Jan 24 21:32 UTC 2007

Jep knows that, but has stated that he does not wish to be a member right now
because of grex's large surplus of cash: he does not think that grex needs
members to be paying dues at the moment.

I don't think I'm eligible to serve, having just concluded my second
consecutive term. Just in case someone decides that one month is a
sufficiently long break, I decline.

thanks for the nomination, nate, but unless the ID rule gets changed for
members here, i won't be eligible

I appreciate the votes of confidence, but I'm not a member, and not likely
to be able to become one anytime soon.

to go.

response 22 of 57: Mark Unseen   Feb 2 03:49 UTC 2007

Unless !member is out of date -- which, well, wouldn't surprise me -- neither
chamberl nor cmcgee have paid their membership dues and are hence inelligible
to run for the Board.

Also, I apologize for my flakiness, but I reaccept my nominations to run for
the Board.

While one person out of isn't going to have much effect as far as voting goes,
I am running in the hopes of making Grex a more welcoming place for both new
users and those who have become disaffected with certain aspects of Grex's
current power structure which, I believe, has caused many talented and vital
members and potential members of the community to decline to provide their
services to Grex and, worse, participate in its community.

While at times I seem to be more or less antagonistic to Grex, I've been a
consistent member for years and I want it to thrive like it did before I even
arrived.

In short, if elected, I intend to shake things up as much as possible.

response 23 of 57: Mark Unseen   Feb 2 03:53 UTC 2007

I would endorse Todd's nomination, but my understanding he has little
interest in running for the Board for reasons that are, for him, no doubt very
good. It'd be nice to see people champing at the bit to be on the Board.
denise
response 24 of 57: Mark Unseen   Feb 2 04:36 UTC 2007

If I had more computer knowledge and a current member, I'd consider helping
out. But since I can't run, I'll just do what I can in my own way in keeping
some of the community feeling up and running. :-)
