A suggestion

What about creating links to old agora conferences based on the months they
were active in? It's a bit of a pain in the ass to sort through all the
serially numbered agoras, especially when not all of them were actually for
a single season and junk.

Since people tend to associate them seasonally, rather than months
it might make sense to use the season they ran for, e.g. "spring2005"
or "winter2003". Otherwise it seems like a decent suggestion.

Since an entire season's items and responses are maintained in a single file,
monthly links would NOT cut down on the material a reader would be faced
with. However, monthly links *would* quadruple the number of links required
(four instead of one) for each season.

So I re-read the item. Now, are you asking for something like "Dec05Mar06"
for Winter2005? Or are you asking for "Dec2005," "Jan2006," Feb2006," and
"Mar2006" for that version of agora?

also, gelinas's response does't make sense because it uses 'quadrupling the
links' as an argument against it, but who the fuck cares about quadrupling
the links, we're not about to run out of dick space?

Regarding #12; I understand you have limited dick space. Please, use that
resource optimally.
Being able to "join mar2006" and have it take you to the correct conference
would be nice, but it seems clear that the intent of #0 is to be able to join
the appropriate agora without searching through a bunch of numbers...

re. 14: i'm asking for the exactly same thing: typing 'join mar2006' and
having it take you there.
this cuts down on having to search through a bunch of numbers too, though.

Regarding #16; I agree. I think a problem with the month problem is that grex
agora is restarted based on seaons, and seaons don't necessarily begin and
end on a month boundary. So what about a month that contains two seasons,
and thus spans two agoras? Where should that take you?

I agree that being able to "join spring2005" would be nice.
maybe with "spring05" as an alternative. Not very Y2100 friendly.
