Marcus Watts, Picospan, Grex, and The Well Mark Unseen   Jul 11 02:06 UTC 2006

Can someone provide information for me that clarifies my hazy recollection
that Marcus Watts, Picospan, and The Well are somehow connected?
Seems to me that I heard somewhere (here probably) that Picospan was written
to help build cyber communities. Any truth to that?

Marcus Watts wrote Picospan.
The Well was built around using Picospan as a conferencing system.

Ok, more data.
When Marcus helped start Grex, after MNet, was Picospan already in place on
The Well?

The timeline, as best I can remember:
   1983 - M-Net debuted as a multiuser Unix-based bbs, running
          Marcus's Picospan
1985 - The Well was launched
   1991 - Grex launched

For much more detail on all of this, see Jan Wolter's "A Partial History
of Computer Conferencing in Ann Arbor".

No, but Island Park played a part in the early days.
