I dont doubt that our web site could use a redesign. But since we are a
volunteer organization, we have never hired anyone for that work. Am I
to take it that you are offering to do the site as a volunteer?

How about a Grex website design contest? Then the membership can vote
for the winner. It'll be strictly voluntary...with the prize being, say,
a free year's membership?

I like the idea of a contest actually. It could be fun.

I'll participate in a design contest. Just be sure to clearly set out
the rules and specifications.

Grex has no paid staff members. Resp:0 looks to me like the gentleman
is looking for a (paying) job and is offering to demonstrate his skills.

I think a contest is a good idea. Just the HTML on grex's home pages is
woefully out of date.

re 7 - it looks to me like he's looking for a paying job, but not from Grex,
he wants to use Grex to demonstrate his skill in order to get a paying job
elsewhere. I'm not sure what part of "I'll do it for free" confused people.

re. 12: wikipedia will no longer use images that are specifically licensed
to it. the image either has to be in the public domain or released under one
of a number of free licenses.
since this would mean pretty much anyone could use grex's logo for pretty much
anything they wanted, it's probably not a good idea.

Wikipedia allows images that are copyrighted if they are used in a way
that conforms to fair use. This includes logos of companies.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Logos
I just thought it would be polite to ask the Grex BoD first.

"Generally, logos should be used only when the company and its logo are
reasonably familiar (or when the logo itself is of interest for design or
artistic reasons)", and so it fails the fair use test.

You don't think the Grex logo is reasonably familiar to those familiar
with Grex?

Probably not to most of them, but it's talking about the general public, not
the Grex public.

Anyway, I feel that Grex's logo would meet Wikipedia's guidelines. If I
am wrong, it most likely will get deleted.

Re. 21: The image violates Wikipedia's policies because it contains a slogan
when a version without a slogan is also available. However, note that
Wikipedia's image policies concerning fair use of institutions of higher
learning and corporations differ.
