Attending Board Members: bhoward (by speakerphone), dpc, gelinas,
mary, polygon
Non-Attending Board Members: vanloons, slynne
Attending Non-Board Members: aruba, remmers
The March 18, 2005 meeting of the Grex Board of Directors was called to
order at 8:12 p.m. at the home of John and Mary Remmers, 19 Westbury
Ct., Ann Arbor. Treasurer gelinas presided in the absence of slynne,
who was ill. There was no contact with vanloons, who has moved to
India.
Treasurer's Report:
Gelinas said that at the suggestion of a Board member, he had
approached aruba about being assistant treasurer, and aruba had agreed.
They had met the previous Sunday and brought the books up to date. The
treasurer's report for the months of January and February is posted on
line. Aruba summarized the report. About $300 had come in this week.
Aruba has asked Corecom to cancel our contract.
Dpc moved to appoint aruba as assistant treasurer, with the same system
access as the treasurer, and polygon seconded. The motion was passed
unanimously. Dpc moved to approve gelinas, slynne, janc, and aruba as
signers on our Bank of Ann Arbor account. Mary seconded. The motion
was passed unanimously.
Mary reported that as of March 1 we have cancelled our insurance
policy, and that we will be getting a rebate.
Staff Report:
The Pumpkin is empty. Grex has been up 13 days. It rebooted itself
the day we moved out of the Pumpkin. There was a discussion of people
sending out e-mails from Grex trying to get people to reveal their eBay
passwords. Also, someone had posted a private chat log in the Agora
Conference, and no action had been taken on removing it.
Aruba reported that he had received a message from a ten-year user
saying she was not renewing because of spam. The staff is working on
the problem, but nothing has been accomplished yet. Polygon said he
was astounded that for some organizations spam was an insuperable
problem, but that others were not affected.
Remmers said that there was a new version of exim out, with
instructions for connecting to Spam Assassin. Remmers said he was
willing to try to get exim to work with Spam Assassin, but he had no
experience. Dpc said that it was good remmers had no experience, since
he would not be carrying prejudices around with him. Aruba said that
spam is contributing to the erosion of the system, and it was a big
priority for us.
Schedule Next Meeting:
The Board set its next meeting for Tuesday, April 19, at 8:00 p.m. at
the Remmers'. The Board discussed connectivity options for that
meeting, in the hope that vanloons can be reached.
The Board gave a big "thank you" to all who helped on the move out of
the Pumpkin. The Board gave a special "thank you" to jdeigert and
keesan.
New Business:
With regard to the fact that a call from western Washtenaw to our new
system is now a long distance call, the Board was told it would be
expensive to arrange a forwarded line. Mary wanted to know if we still
had a problem. She said a couple of the users from western Washtenaw
who had been dialing in are now on-line. Dpc said it was not
cost-effective for us to do anything further. Mary said that we have
gained Willis and a few other communities on the east side of Ypsilanti
as areas where dialing in is now a local call. She said she would look
into placing an ad in a Willis newspaper announcing a free conferencing
system.
With regard to connectivity at the next meeting, mary said she had
researched how we might connect so that both remote callers can hear
each other. She said we might possibly use iChat through Tiger, the
soon-to-be released upgrade to Mac OS X.
The meeting adjourned at 8:52 p.m.

Thank you both for stepping up to tackle this important task, and
notably to Mark for continuing his service to the membership. Joe, I
personally appreciate your tireless support of the system, as well. Nice
work, both of you.
I'm curious --- do either of you know how much paypal is charging Grex
for our donations? I used to know the percentage, but now I can't find
it, and I want to include that much more, so Grex gets the total amount,
y'know....
