Board Election Discussion Item Mark Unseen   Dec 1 14:49 UTC 2004

Board candidates can of course enter their own items, but I thought
it might be useful to have a general discussion item as well. So
here it is.

I'll start by putting in a word for Steve Van Loon. He doesn't
participate all that much in bbs discussions, so a lot of folks
here might not know him. If you hang out in party, you've probably
run into him, though - that's how I became acquainted with him.
Steve has been on Grex for quite a few years, has been a member
for a while, and certainly knows and supports what Grex is about.
He's a professional programmer; his technical background could be
useful to the board. I plan on voting for him.

Then too, I have a natural affinity for anybody who met his wife
online. :)

Is Steve Van Loon considered a "local" candidate?

Technically I don't think it matters, since the bylaws make no
distinction between members based on location. Only requirement
is that they be able to attend board meetings, and an audio
connection via speakerphone or similar device counts as
"attendance". That's the way Bruce Howard has been attending
board meetings, for example.

Steve would have about an hour commute to board meetings, I think,
if he attends in person.

As I mentioned in agora, I work in Northville which is only about 20
miles from Ann Arbor. I'm close enough to be able to step in and do
tasks that need to be done. For instance, if I need to stop by a mail
box and pick up mail, then I'm close enough to do that. If elected,
I'll certainly show up to some board meetings in person. (People will
actually get to see me in real life then.) I would say I'm a local
person.

John is correct in that I have an hour commute from home, but it's only
20 minutes from my work.
