No more blue ribbon? Mark Unseen   Oct 16 21:11 UTC 2004

I noticed that the image of the "blue ribbon" on Grex's home page no longer
appears, and the link doesn't work. A quick look at the EFF's home page
shows no sign of any blue ribbon campaign for free speech on the internet.
Have they declared victory and discontinued it?

Weird. I'm sure I couldn't access either last night. That's not the
image we were using though. Looks like someone took it off of Grex's
home page, so I can't check what image was being used.

well, EFF did rewrite parts of the site without warnings.
On the main page, the topics with most exposure from one or two years
ago were more targeted toward "intellectual property" items and "piracy"
(RIAA and so).The motto "free speach" + blue ribbon was old, too wide, a
bit worn, to be kept as main argument and big entry point into the site.
Well this is how I see the modifications...

So, what was for some years: http://www.eff.org/blueribbon.html as
turned into http://www.eff.org/br. If you hit the first link you get a
404 page.It had been better to relink or redirect stuff. The second link
has no longer the strong visual advocacy of the old blue ribbon page.

Now, here are old GreX main pages, retrieved from web.archive.org with
the previous blue ribbon look (low servers sometimes):

from january 2004:
http://web.archive.org/web/20040127013457/http://grex.org/

only the logo:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030530114823/www.eff.org/Icons/home/blueribb
onlogo.gif

(web.archive.org has grex main pages from nov. 1998 to mar. 2004)

Yes, thanks khamsun. I've updated the home page on nextGrex to point to
the new location, and to serve the image off of grex instead of off of
eff's machine.

Will NextGrex support deletion of items from the parenting conference on a
whim, too?

(I went at this the hard way, reading the RCS file and logs of index.html.
I found that we were using the image

        http://www.eff.org/Icons/home/blueribbonlogo.gif

after we stopped using

        http://www.hvcn.org/info/grex/bluerib1.gif

which was used while discussing the matter.)
