GREX BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
DATE AND TIME: Thursday, 21 March 2002, 7:00pm EST
PLACE: Upstairs at Zingerman's Next Door
422 Detroit Street, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA
NOTE: Zingerman's was unable to reserve the room for us this
month due to a tasting in the adjoining larger room, but if we get in
there a little early and stake a claim, it is possible that other people
will not compete for the seats. If this should fail, then we may have
to just decide to have the meeting downstairs.

A note for the publicity committee: The March issue of the Observer
does not list the weekly Grex-Walks. I have not seen other recent
Observer issues, so I don't know if March is the first time we've been
omitted or not.
(I realize that this is probably not the proper item to discuss this,
but I was hoping that someone who will be able to attend the meeting
can bring it up)

I can confirm that - the walk appeared in the February Observer but not the
March one. I'll let valerie & danr know - I think one of them is the
contact person.

I emailed Valerie, and she emailed Laura at The Observer, who said they were
forced to remove a bunch of events from the March calendar at the last
minute. She promised to add it in to next month's edition this afternoon.

My understanding (gained talking to the Observer about listings for
another group i'm involved with) is that the amount of stuff that's
submitted to them for the events calandar grows relentlessly, but
the number of column-inches that they've available to list it all in
is barely growing. Hence a growing number of editorial cuts each
month...

How many people have gone to a walk because of reading that ad?

It hasn't happened much recently, but over the years, I'd guess maybe 10-15
people have showed up on the walk after reading the ad in the observer.

I joined the BBS stuff on Grex, after I'd been using it for email,
because I read the ad and thought, these have to be interesting people,
let's see what they have to say.

Valerie reports that the Grexwalk is back in the Arborweb calendar, and she
believes it will be in the print version, though she hasn't seen it yet.
