                        $433.80

Ending Balance $5,959.45

Our current balance breaks down as follows:

$4,726.59 General Fund
  $148.86 Silly Hat Fund
   $60.00 Spare Parts Fund
$1,024.00 Infrastructure Fund

The money is distributed like this:

$1,653.14 Checking account
  $500.00 8-month 3.00% CD which comes due 5/28/2002
$3,806.31 Savings account earning 1.25% interest annually

There was no activity in the Grex store this month, so the balances remain at:

                         Cash Stock
                     --------- ---------
                      $149.40 $162.10

We had two people who wanted to become members, but they didn't come
through with ID. So we had no actual new members in February. We are
currently at 92 members, 87 of whom are paid through at least March 15th.
(The others expired recently and are in a grace period.)

Notes:

- The board voted to increase the price of a handbook from $1 to $2, to
better cover costs.

- Right after we opened our savings account, apparently, the interest
rate dropped from 1.74% to 1.25%. :(

Thanks to everyone who contributed in February:

aj3l1t3, bruin, call911, chanur, danr, i, kami, mbroggy, mdw, mudlark,
polygon, raheim, sontek, and tomaso.

Thanks everyone!

If you pay by cash or money order, please include a photocopy of some form of
ID. I can't add you to the rolls without ID. (If you pay with a personal
check that has your name pre-printed on it, we consider that a good enough
ID.) Type !support or see http://www.cyberspace.org/member.html for more

To become a member, you need to provide me with some ID.

There are two reasons Grex requires ID from its members:

1. While we are very comfortable allowing anonymous users access to Grex,
we are not comfortable unleashing them on the rest of the Internet. It
would be irresponsible of the Grex administration to allow people we can't
identify to telnet through Grex to other systems, so we require ID from
everyone we allow to do that.

2. Cyberspace Communications is required by the state of Michigan to
maintain an up-to-date list of members. Implied in this requirement is
that we make sure no two memberships are held by the same person. So we
require ID to connect accounts with real people and make sure no one has
the ability to vote twice in Grex elections.

So yes you can send cash, as long as you include a photocopy of some form
of ID.

Of course, if you want to send a donation, but not become a member, you
are welcome to send cash without ID. We'll accept it happily.

Without the ID, how would we know that you're not just a pseudo of
someone who's planning to take over grex by buying memberships for
enough pseudos to have 51% of the votes?

Not that Dr. Evil couldn't get copies of enough ID's to mail in,
but it would make it harder, probably require him to commit some
crimes, etc....hopefully we're not worth his bother.
