Helpers

User "gopher", who is a Grex helper, tells me that no one ever writes to him
for help. I started to wonder if we ever make an effort any more to let new
users know that they can write to helpers, or become helpers. Do we?
Should we be doing more?

its true. I am a grex helper since last week and just three or four users ask
me for help.
I think that the majority of grex users do not know that they have helpers
to sort out their problems.

The few times I've tried to get a helper, there has not been one available.
I think the lack of helpers discourages some of us who would otherwise ask.

we should do a teem of helpers so users can allways have a available helper.
I am in grex when i can, but its not enough to all grex users one single
helper.

I've thought about becoming a helper, but I honestly don't know what
the requirements are, and so I don't know if I qualify.
But I do know that it's possible we don't have enough helpers at all
times, too. Night shift is rather devoid of such, so.. ?

I'd say give it a shot, jaklumen. If you find that you can't answer the
questions, you can always turn the flag back off.

You turn the helper flag on with "mesg -h", and people write to you with
"write help".

Check out the Helper conference. There is nothing in there since 2001 but
it does tell you how to toggle the flag and a few other things. If you are
interested in helping it can give you an idea of what to expect. BTW - the
lack of helpers has always been an issue according to the conf.

While m-net is down, I say we should give them Grex at least temporarily.
