the program "links" and a list of text-friendly pages Mark Unseen   May 21 11:46 UTC 2002

Hi,

I'm new here--I discovered this today from tucson, az--but i think i already
really like grex a lot. in any case, whaddaya say to two webbish propositions:

1) installing the web browser links as a companion to lynx. links isn't as
complete as lynx, but it has decent table support, which makes the web a LOT
more approachable from a text-only connection. until lynx has table support
(next version?), links is a good option.

2) i wrote the webmaster about this, but i'd like to update the amazingly old
"explore the web" pages to have a bunch of lynx(/links) friendly pages listed.
basic stuff: searching, news, weather, sports, that sort of thing.

nice to be here!

Hi, Alex! Welcome to Grex!

I have an idea. Feel free to write updated versions of those pages and
store them in your home directory. Keep us updated via this item on
their status, and someone with lynxadm privileges will look them over and
possibly install them in the WWW directory.

Thanks for your enthusiasm!

Better yet, if you create a 'www' directory within your home directory,
and keep the pages there, you and other users can look at them in any
browser and provide feedback to help the process.

Hey, dude, I suggest using M-Net, as opposed to the Grexist's system. Just
telnet to arbornet.org.

We had a discussion of updating lynx's pages and everyone agreed it should
be done but nobody found the time to do it. All volunteer work will be
appreciated. You can also submit your ideas directly to Steve Weiss (srw).
Have you tried w3m (?) which also does tables and is installed at grex?

Okay, I'll update it! Just tell me what you're talking about and I'll do it!
