Here is the treasurer's report on Cyberspace Communications, Inc. finances
through September 30th, 1998.

Beginning Balance $3,424.90

Credits $288.00 Member contributions
                        $196.00 Auction proceeds

                   ------------
                        $509.00

Debits $60.00 Pumpkin Rent for October
                         $66.36 Electricity for September
                         $20.00 Innovative Concepts phone line
                        $391.48 Phone Bill
                          $4.31 Bank service charge
                   ------------
                        $542.15

Ending Balance $3,391.75

Our current balance breaks down as follows:

$2,399.17 General Fund
  $816.00 Spare parts / 501(c)3 / Mail machine fund
  $104.86 Silly Hat Fund
   $65.00 UPS Fund
    $6.72 Sales tax collected

There was no activity in the Grex store, so the balances remain at:

                         Cash Stock
                     --------- ---------
       Balances: ($123.60) $340.90

We had one new member in September (sagan). We are currently at 100 members,
91 of whom are paid through at least October 15th. (The others expired
recently and are in a grace period.)

We spent about $33 more than we took in in September. A couple of notes:
  - I haven't gotten around to calling Detroit Edison to try to get them to
tell me what our electric bill really should be. I suspect the $66.36 may
go up a bit next month.
  - I went ahead and paid for the ICNET line this month, since we had already
had it for almost a month when the board voted to drop it. It should be
    gone next month.

Thanks to everyone who contributed in September:

ajax atticus, bigwalt, coyote, dang, falcon1, kdkd, n8rxs, omni, otter,
phenix, quail, robh, sagan, scg, and tpryan.

Thanks everyone!

If a potential member didn't want the enables-you-to-make-people-on-other-
systems-mad-at-Grex internet abilities or the someone-with-money-and-many-
pseudos-could-stuff-the-ballot-box vote, staff & board would probably be
happy to let a generous pseudo become a (limited) member.

(Is that what you're referring to?)

If someone doesn't want to be acknowledged, I don't think Mark would
announce it.

Quite true, if someone asks not to be thanked publicly or to have their real
name mentioned in public, I always respect their wishes. However, contrary
to Walter's suggestion, there is no provision for a "non-voting, non-internet
enabled member". If someone wants to contribute but not be validated or have
internet and voting privileges, they are welcome to send Grex a donation of
any amount; we just don't call them a member.

What is this $4.31 bank service charge? Grex has enough money in the bank so
that it shouldnt be paying any maintenance fees. Grex should be getting free
checking. Doesnt Grex have one of those usual deals where there are no charges
if you maintain a minmum balance? Surely grex more than any minimum balance
requirements.

Er, there's some discussion in an item around here somewhere about just that,
Richard.

See item 30 for more info Richard, but the upshot is that to get an account
with no monthly fee at our current bank, we'd have to keep $3000 in the bank
at all times. While we usually have that, I'd rather not promise to. There
are indeed better deals at other banks, and it looks like we'll switch.

Looks like our balance is high enough to be instead earning abut 5% in a money
market fund ($2500 to open it, $2000 to maintain it, but they will overlook
it if you go a bit below that). See discussion elsewhere.

It doesn't sound like there's much concensus on the MMF right now.
Maybe we should drop it for the time being ... ?
