Request for game installation: ADOM Mark Unseen   Jan 18 10:20 UTC 2001

(request for additional game: would it be possible to have ADOM
installed? it's a game similar to Nethack with a bit more in the
way of character development.  the source is available at <www.adom.de.>;
I'm not sure of what the current version is.)

Hey, I'm all in favor, for what that's worth.

I took a look at their website, http://www.adom.de/

It looks like a cool game, but there is a big problem. When I went to
the download area, I found that it is distributed as executables, not
source. Executables are not available for SunOS. Maybe I missed
something, but I don't think so.

(hmm. I hadn't guessed that the Linux version wouldn't work under
a real Unix operating system [SunOS]. there's a tar file for the Linux
version at http://www.adom.de/adom/download.php3. perhaps I will have to
settle for the DOS version I've been playing.) :(

Linux and SunOS use very different binary formats. Also, Linux binaries
are generally for Intel processors, which is not what Grex's machine
has.

SunOS 4 only supports a.out. Solaris supports a.out and elf. Old
versions of linux used a.out. New versions of linux use elf by default,
but can still do a.out. In theory, for intel, & other platforms, there
is a common abi, and binaries built to the common abi should run under
any OS that supports the common abi.

Not that this helps for running adom.

(I'm so saddened.)
